Hill's laughter was bright, joyful, and loud.
But even though he rarely showed such wild abandon before the two Moon Goddesses, neither Shar nor Selûne found it surprising.
William's origins were hardly a secret.
Besides, if he insisted that the God of Space-Time was his biological father, that did not seem wrong either... Wasn't Mask, a fragment torn from Shar, also universally acknowledged as Shar's son?
Gods could give birth on their own in the first place.
Of course, that depended on whether the person involved was willing.
For example, the Gods of Toril should theoretically all have been jointly created by Shar and Selûne, yet neither side acknowledged any such connection between them.
In Mask's case, everyone assumed it, and the two of them assumed it as well... mainly because Shar had not tried to kill him simply because Mask had split off part of her authority over the Shadowfell.
In a sense, that counted as Shar's tacit acceptance.
Of course, her main reason for doing so was that she intended to keep Mask as a blood pack she could reclaim whenever she wished.
If her relationship with William had not made her desire a purer version of herself, then after losing the Shadow Weave, Shar would certainly have devoured Mask to replenish her lost power.
So William's claim did not really seem wrong.
Shar opened her mouth, then chose silence... As someone who also had annoying relatives in the family, it was not as though she had never considered solving that problem at its source.
So she was actually rather envious that William could so openly and honestly replace his father.
But Shar knew that William had never intended to deny his past, just as even now he still referred to Naven as his hard-working and accomplished cousin...
