Toril's gold was worth far more than Telashir's. When the Undead came here, their gold and Elemental Crystals from Telashir had been sealed away. William had no intention of handing Toril a windfall. Anyone who wanted to spend money here had to exchange it for Elven Gold Coins specially made by Corellon.
Hill had worked out that one Elemental Crystal was worth roughly a hundred Toril Gold Coins. The Toril coins looked much finer, too. One side bore the towering Life Tree of the Elven Divine Kingdom, and the other bore the Father of Elves' palace. They looked like works of art, so the Undead had no complaints.
Telashir's gold coins were nowhere near as pretty. William cared about preventing counterfeits, not making them ornate. The Undead did not count out coins one by one with their heads bowed whenever they bought something, so William had no reason to fuss over the details.
Even by the Undead's standards for buying gold with their own money, 370,000 coins was no small sum.
Toril's Earth Elemental Spirits were rather unsociable. They generally followed instructions to the letter, put in their two hours, and left. Of course, it was another matter if they happened to get along with whoever summoned them.
The Cave-Exploring Ring could summon spirits above its own tier mainly because the Earth Elemental god Grumbar knew Hill's aura and was willing to do him
