Background / History

Li Wei awakens chained to a metal table in an industrial cult site, where he is designated Sacrificial Specimen 734 and prepared for a ritual intended to summon a “Star God.” Inquisitor Gregor’s forces interrupt the ritual, but Gregor initially orders Li Wei executed for spiritual contamination. A blind psyker’s inability to perceive Li Wei changes that judgment: Gregor redesignates him Void-1, an expendable temporary asset of the Inquisition. 1 2

Forced into the Underhive, Li Wei discovers that his presence erases or repels Warp phenomena. He survives Gregor’s mission through a sealed Warp-infested facility, destroys a Warp entity by approaching it, and escapes with an Inquisition data-slate after the operation collapses. Cut loose in Atalos’s Bottom Hive, he recognizes that he has transmigrated into the universe of Warhammer 40,000 and resolves to survive through practical knowledge, deception, and exploitation of his Pariah nature. 4 6 9

Li Wei turns mechanical aptitude into protection and income, repairing vital infrastructure and salvaged technology that local inhabitants mistake for sacred machinery. He later leverages the data-slate—containing Inquisition intelligence on Genestealer infiltration—to enter the Upper Hive, negotiate with cult leader Valorian, and approach Aurelia van Atalos as an adviser able to expose hidden infiltrators. 8 10 14 17 19

During the Genestealer uprising, Li Wei and Aurelia use his anti-psychic field to identify infected nobles and sever their connection to the Broodmind. He gains command over hundreds of rampant servitors, helps seize Atalos’s broadcast center, and deliberately spreads evidence of the infestation to incite a citywide civil war. The collapse of Atalos ultimately leads to his confinement aboard a Black Ship. 20 21 23 25 30

Aboard the Black Ship, Li Wei survives a Warp breach, destroys an Alpha-level psyker’s Warp-rift body, and is cast into the Warp. He emerges on a Necron Tomb World, where he travels with Sister Elena, disrupts Necron systems, frees a C’tan fragment, and gains an overwhelming Necron knowledge database after corrupting the Tomb Technician’s time-loop system. 33 35 43

After being abducted onto the Dark Mechanicum vessel Pain, Li Wei feigns ignorance while using his new knowledge to sabotage the ship, rescue Elena, and ally with Iron Hands Sergeant Atticus. He eventually frees a shard of the Void Dragon, escapes the destruction of Pain, and reaches Medusa. There, he becomes Clan Raukaan’s chief logic purifier in return for treatment to suppress the Necron database eroding his mind. 44 45 48 50

Personality

Li Wei begins as a frightened modern civilian who instinctively tries to solve lethal situations through negotiation, legal reasoning, money, or common sense. Repeated betrayal and institutional brutality force him to become suspicious, opportunistic, and willing to bluff stronger opponents rather than confront them directly. 1 9 18

He presents himself as selfish and survival-driven, frequently framing compassion as pragmatism.
