Background

The Necron installation encountered by Li Wei is not a conventional tomb alone, but a vast automated factory built to sever souls from the Warp. Its periodic stasis pulses dehydrate living beings, overheat equipment, and purge the planet's surface; a protected Silent Zone around a black monolith offers the only shelter from the effect 34 37 38.

The Tomb World is governed by rigid machine logic and defended by Scarabs, Warriors, Crypt Wraiths, transport barges, stasis crypts, and a Necron Lord. Its local intelligence, the Tomb Technician, uses captured biological minds—including Archmagos Kilgrave—as translators and processing components 35 37 42.

At the center of the system, the Necrons imprison a C'tan Shard with blackstone obelisks and convert harvested human souls into energy. That energy sustains the Dead Space of Exorcism, suppressing psychic influence and gradually reducing ordinary humans to emotionless “Hollow Shells” 41.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Tomb World Arrival

After surviving the Warp, Li Wei arrives on a frozen Tomb World near the Nachmund Sector. He discovers the remains of an Imperial expedition destroyed by the stasis pulse, evades a Scarab because it cannot detect his soul, and races toward the black monolith when the Scarab swarm detects his interference 33 34.

The Monolith and Necron Lord

Li Wei survives the next stasis pulse inside the monolith and meets Sister Elena, the final survivor of the Undying Flame expedition. Their refuge proves to be the sarcophagus of a Necron Lord, forcing Li Wei to hide Elena inside a stasis crypt after his Void Field fails to affect the Lord 35 36.

Tomb Technician Experiment

Li Wei and Elena descend into the tomb in search of a way to halt the pulse. They find Kilgrave converted into a living interface, then confront the Tomb Technician, which captures Elena and forces Li Wei into a Soul Stripping Chamber 37.

The chamber cannot define or remove Li Wei’s absent soul. Its calculations enter an infinite loop, and his Void Field turns the machine’s green energy into black destructive arcs, temporarily crashing the local control node 38.

Dead Space and Human Harvesting

After escaping via Phase Transmitter, Li Wei and Elena enter the Dead Space of Exorcism. They discover hollowed Imperial workers, infiltrate a Necron transport barge, and are delivered to the pyramid’s soul-harvesting facility 39 40 41.

Li Wei realizes the Necrons are feeding stolen souls to a chained C'tan Shard in exchange for the power needed to sustain the planetary suppression field. He and Elena avoid sacrifice by making themselves register as worthless, fully depleted waste 41.

Collapse of the Tomb World

Li Wei releases a severed C'tan thought-tendril from a containment generator, intending to use it against the tomb defenses. The fragment attacks the core, but the Tomb Technician traps it in a time loop and attempts to overwrite Li Wei’s mind with Necron knowledge 42 43.

Li Wei’s Void nature corrupts the forced data transfer and crashes the system. The temporal lock breaks, the C'tan Shard escapes, and the tomb’s defensive structures collapse. An Inquisition battlecruiser then begins Exterminatus procedures against the Tomb World and all surviving witnesses 43.
