Awakening

Martial Souls are awakened through a ceremony at age six. An examiner channels power through six black stones arranged in a hexagon; golden light then draws out the subject's Martial Soul. A Blue Crystal Ball is used afterward to assess Innate Soul Power. 4 5

• A person without Soul Power cannot cultivate as a Soul Master, regardless of their Martial Soul's quality. 5
• Innate Full Soul Power is exceptionally rare and represents extraordinary cultivation talent. Su Yuntao describes rank 10 as the usual maximum known to him, though rank 20 and rank 30 examples exist. 5 7 190
• Martial Souls may initially be misidentified when their appearance resembles a common or “waste” Martial Soul. Ye Yu's Nine Spirit Black Tang was registered as a Black Tail Flower. 6 15

Soul Rings

Soul Rings are obtained by hunting Soul Beasts and grant Soul Skills. Their age and suitability strongly affect both the danger of absorption and the resulting ability. 6 17
