Overview
A Martial Soul is an awakened manifestation that determines a Soul Master's abilities, attributes, cultivation prospects, and possible development path. It may take forms ranging from weapons and animals to food, support tools, or divine-beast lineages. Its quality is closely associated with innate Soul Power and can affect how major factions value or recruit its wielder. 1 19 26 33
Martial Souls are manifested through Martial Soul possession and are strengthened through Soul Power, Soul Rings, Spirit Bones, and—in exceptional cases—Immortal Herbs or ancient inheritances. 4 26 59 61
Awakening and Innate Soul Power

| Soul Skill generation | Martial Souls provide distinct Soul Skills, such as the Ice Crystal Swan's long-range feather blades and binding frost chains. 6 |
| Inheritance | Familial Martial Souls may be passed to descendants. Emperor Xue Ye seeks to preserve the Ice Crystal Swan through marriage with an ice-attribute Martial Soul wielder. 16 29 |

Risks and Limitations
Poison-type backlash
Poison-type Martial Souls can contaminate their wielder's Soul Power and body as cultivation advances. Symptoms include interrupted Soul Power circulation, pain during rainy conditions, and eventual death if toxins cannot be suppressed. 37 38 39
- Dugu Yan's Jade Phosphorus Snake caused pauses in her Soul Power circulation. 37 38
- Dugu Yan's father died when his Martial Soul evolved at the Soul Saint level and its intensified poison exceeded his ability to suppress it. 39 58
- Dugu Bo expected Dugu Yan to lose control of her Poison Skill before she could absorb a Fifth Soul Ring if no cure was found. 40
- A Martial Soul's evolution may solve this weakness if it creates a specialized venom sac. 59 60
Soul Ring tolerance
A Soul Master's body and spiritual strength limit the age of Soul Rings they can safely absorb. 60 61 64
- After Ice and Fire Body Refining, Jin Hao estimated that his body could bear an 8,000-year Third Soul Ring. 60
- The Dragon Balls later raised his physical limit to approximately 20,000 years, though soul shock remained a concern. 61
- Absorbing the Moonlight Soul-Condensing Ganoderma strengthened Jin Hao's soul and spiritual power enough for him to attempt a Ten-Thousand-Year Third Soul Ring. 64
