Background / History
Legends state that Goblins once established an empire before the Three Human Kingdoms existed. The ancient Goblin Empire allegedly enslaved humans and dragons before other races united to overthrow it; over time, Goblins declined into scattered forest tribes regarded as weak monsters 20.
The Goblins of Goblin Forest were reorganized by Jane Raji Cide, a former starving forest Goblin who rose through traps, raids, and the acquisition of human equipment and knowledge. After discovering an ancient ruby relic, he awakened an Imperial Bloodline, overthrew tribal leaders, unified the local tribes, and later claimed the inheritance of the Ancient Goblin Emperor 30.
Under his rule, the Goblins attacked villages and sacrificed weak members to create the appearance of a minor resurgence. This bait drew adventurers into Goblin Forest, where organized forces captured survivors, prepared traps, and used prisoners in a ritual connected to an ancient artifact 26 27 30.
The operation collapsed after the Rescue Corps survived the forest traps, uncovered the surveillance network, defeated the Goblin army, and destroyed the Goblin King’s constructed body. Jane Raji Cide escaped briefly in his frail true form before Bai Jin and He Meng killed him at his planned cave escape route 37 38.
Appearance
Goblins are described as ugly, green-skinned humanoids with long noses and pointed ears. Ordinary Goblins are much smaller than the Goblin King, while elite variants may be thin and physically unimpressive despite their combat ability 13 27 31.
- Usually armed with stone axes, spears, clubs, hammers, or scavenged metal weapons 13 22 25.
- Regular Goblins commonly attack from treetops before retrieving thrown weapons and charging on foot 13 22.
- The Goblin King’s constructed body stood nearly two meters tall and wore human-style armor while wielding a longstaff 31.
- Elite Assassin Goblins are small, skinny Goblins armed with daggers and throwing darts 27 28.
Society and Organization
The Goblin Forest force was far more developed than adventurers expected. Its hidden village contained farms, livestock, military training grounds, refined wooden houses, a palace, and cages for captured adventurers 31.
- Centralized rule — Jane Raji Cide ruled through absolute obedience; Goblins did not question orders, even when those orders cost them their lives 30 34.
- Military training — The Goblin King trained Goblins to move through trees and operate in organized ranks rather than as scattered monsters 30 32 33.
- Surveillance network — Magical “eyes” and crystal-ball feeds monitored movement throughout the forest. The network had reportedly taken six years to establish 23 30.
- Trap warfare — Goblins prepared boulder traps, concealed stone spheres, Abyss Traps, ambushes, and monitored routes around their stronghold 20 27 31.
- Prisoners and sacrifices — Captured adventurers were held in cages and used as potential ritual sacrifices; disruptive prisoners were reportedly prioritized 26 31.
- Resource acquisition — The Goblins relied heavily on weapons and metal plundered from humans rather than their own smelting 31.
Combat Capabilities
| Goblin Type / Force | Known Levels | Combat Characteristics |
|---|---|---|
| Outer-forest Goblins | 8–13 | Attack in groups with stone axes; possess notable endurance despite low overall stats 13 14 |
| Forest assault force | 11–19 | High health and resistance allow them to survive repeated area-of-effect spells 22 |
| Camp encirclement force | 16–19; two elites around 22 | Maintained stamina while surrounding the exhausted Silverwind Squad 24 |
| Goblin village soldiers | 11–16; roughly 100 above level 16 | Numerous but generally lower-level than the Rescue Corps’ stronger combatants 31 |
| Elite Assassin Goblins | 23 | Extremely high attack and speed, low HP, stealth attacks, Deathly Dart, and Phase Charge 28 |
| Goblin King Jane Raji Cide | 30 | Hybrid melee mage with 2,140 HP, 1,130 MP, 322 Strength, 402 Intelligence, and a magical longstaff 31 32 |
Abilities & Skills
Group Ambushes
Goblins exploit numbers, terrain, and surprise attacks rather than relying solely on individual strength.
- Threw stone axes from the forest canopy during their first encounter with Yang Yu and Bai Jin 13.
- Used coordinated charges with axes and spears against the Rescue Corps 22.
- Surrounded exhausted targets to drain their remaining stamina and mana before finishing them 24.
Endurance and Resistance
Many Goblins can endure more punishment than their levels suggest.
- Goblins struck by Blizzard, Dark Lightning Surge, and repeated Cleaves remained standing during Yang Yu and Bai Jin’s first battle 14.
- Level 11–19 Goblins survived the Rescue Corps’ opening barrage of fire, ice, and lightning magic 22.
- Their resilience forced Yang Yu to rely on battlefield control and allied finishing power when his own attack output proved insufficient 25.
Elite Assassin Corps
The Goblin Assassin Corps was a specially trained and magically modified force reserved for the planned invasion of human territory 30.
- Deathly Dart — A concealed dart attack intended to kill targets before panic spreads through their group 27 28.
- Phase Charge — A high-speed dagger assault used in close combat 28.
- Formation tactics — Assassins coordinated front-and-rear attacks, selected vulnerable-looking targets, and used treetop positions for observation 27.
- Limitation — Their extreme attack and speed came at the cost of only 150 HP, making them fragile once forced into direct combat 28.
Surveillance and Trap Network
The Goblin King’s forces controlled much of Goblin Forest through prepared defenses.
- Tiny magical beads and crystal-ball-linked “eyes” observed adventurer movements 23 27.
- Surveillance devices could be detected through their magical signature after the Rescue Corps discovered them 23.
- The network could not observe every location, leaving blind spots that Yang Yu exploited 24.
- The Goblins prepared massive rolling boulders and concealed stone spheres as long-term traps 20 27.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Stone axes and sharp spears — Common weapons used by outer-forest and assault Goblins 13 22.
- Daggers and throwing darts — Standard armament of Elite Assassin Goblins 27 28.
- Flame-Forged Longstaff — Purple-quality staff wielded by the Goblin King; Yang Yu stole it during the King’s transformation 36.
- Goblin’s Hand of God — Pink-quality necklace acquired after the conflict. It can redistribute a Goblin target’s attributes by consuming blood, but both wearer and target must be Goblins 40.
Relationships
- Goblin King Jane Raji Cide — Ruler who unified the Goblin Forest tribes, built their military structure, and directed their campaign against human adventurers 30.
- Elite Assassin Goblins — Highly trained royal unit whose members treated the Goblin King’s orders as absolute 27 28.
- Yang Yu — Principal human adversary; he exposed the surveillance network, commanded the Rescue Corps, and orchestrated the Goblin King’s defeat 23 35 38.
- Rescue Corps — Adventurer force that destroyed the Goblin army’s elite units, rescued prisoners, and defeated the Goblin King 29 33 37.
- Captured Adventurers — Prisoners held in cages and intended for sacrifices connected to the Goblins’ ritual 26 31.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Goblin Forest Ambush
A group of roughly twenty Goblins ambushed Yang Yu and Bai Jin with stone axes, revealing that Goblins in the forest had begun acting in coordinated groups rather than as isolated weak monsters 13.
Adventurer Disappearances
Goblin forces drove multiple adventurer parties deeper into the forest, captured the Silverwind Squad, and triggered emergency rescue missions at the Adventurers’ Guild 17 19.
Rescue Corps Campaign
The Goblins used boulder traps, surveillance, massed attacks, and Elite Assassin Goblins to exhaust and destroy the Rescue Corps. Their tactics instead pushed the adventurers into a united defensive formation and ultimately exposed the existence of a larger Goblin stronghold 20 21 27.
Battle for the Goblin Village
The Rescue Corps discovered the Goblin village, its prison cages, and the Goblin King’s organized army. Yang Yu assumed command, used deception to eliminate the assassins, and led the Corps against Jane Raji Cide and his forces 31 33 35.
Defeat of the Goblin King
The Goblin King’s transformation was interrupted by coordinated magic, and Yang Yu stole its longstaff before severely injuring it with [Shield Counter]. Its constructed body exploded, but its true body escaped until Bai Jin prevented its recovery and He Meng delivered the finishing blow 36 37 38.
Trivia
- Goblins were widely dismissed as weak monsters suitable for D-Rank adventurers before the Goblin Forest crisis revealed their organization and military preparation 20.
- The Goblin King deliberately helped weak and young Goblins not from affection, but to secure lifelong loyalty 30.
- The Goblin King’s fearsome armored form was not its true body; it was an artificial vessel made to wear high-quality human armor 37.
- Yang Yu’s system translation rendered the Goblin King’s meaningful name in an unusually awkward way, though “Cide” was stated to be the surname of the Ancient Goblin Emperor 32.
