He Qiu worked as a photographer for a television station before receiving a mysterious phone advertisement and losing consciousness in a station van. He awoke in a blood-soaked, decaying European-style house with his phone, camera equipment, and belongings missing. 4

Unlike the other abducted strangers, He Qiu quickly assessed the scene as a genuine massacre rather than a prank. He identified blood evidence and possible bullet damage, concealed a dining knife in his sleeve, woke the other unconscious survivors, and pretended to be equally confused while evaluating them. 4
