Agri-World 496b, located near the Hive City on the equator, saw the planetary defense forces PDF engage the rebels on the great plains.
Because the neighboring industrial world was suffering from Greenskin Orks, the Departmento Munitorum needed support from Agri-World 496b, prompting the planetary governor to order heavy taxes.
The taxes on Agri-World 496b were already heavy, with the people struggling to survive and barely having enough to eat; now with the increased taxes, half of the farmers rose up in rebellion!
At first, the rebels breached numerous farms, turned the farming machinery inside into weapons, and launched attacks against the planetary defense forces.
The rebels overran quite a few military outposts, acquired massive amounts of weapons, developed rapidly in a short time, and then launched an attack on the Hive City.
Millions of rebels charged across the agricultural plains outside the Hive City, only to be routed by the planetary defense forces on the outer perimeter of the Hive. Both sides engaged in fierce combat on the plains, fighting back and forth for years, leaving the land riddled with shell craters and trenches everywhere.
Both sides knew they could not defeat the other, and the war entered a prolonged stalemate, which provided some space for survival for war scavengers.
Eighty kilometers north of the Hive City, a dozen rebel soldiers were resting in a trench when suddenly, a large-caliber shell landed and blew them all to pieces.
A rebel-modified autogun spun as it crashed into the plowed field, catching the attention of Li Qinwu, who had been crawling in the field for a long time.
"This autogun looks to be in good condition, and it probably fires Tier-2 bullets. Taking it to the black market contact can fetch at least 1,500 credits!"
He muttered under his breath, crawling toward the autogun.
Li Qinwu came from the 3rd Millennium. While playing Escape from Tarkov at home, he was head-shot through the eyes from 200 meters away by an AI shouting "Turbo suka" using a buckshot shotgun round.
In a rage, he uninstalled Escape from Tarkov and switched to Arena Breakout to run the Northridge Hotel, only to end up getting killed back-to-back in 10 matches by full-tier-six HK416s firing 995 rounds.
In a rage, he uninstalled Arena Breakout and switched to Delta Force, right as he encountered the shocking shared-prison scandal and the extraction-point player limit incident!
In a fit of anger, he chose to shut down his computer and scroll on his phone, only to see a gender-swapped picture of the God-Emperor bearing the caption: Those who see this picture voluntarily go to Warhammer 40,000 to serve the God-Emperor. And just like that, Lao Li arrived, dropped straight onto this Imperium-owned Agri-World.
How miserably humans lived in Warhammer 40,000 went without saying, but fortunately, the Search-Shoot-Extract System came along with Li Qinwu.
This system digitalized Li Qinwu's physical stats, allowing him to gain experience to increase attributes, and also provided a Hideout—an absolutely safe space located deep beneath the Hive City.
Most importantly, he could resurrect infinitely!
No matter the reason for his death, he would respawn in the Hideout with his status restored to optimal, though all the gear on his body would be lost.
Freed from life-and-death concerns, Li Qinwu began living according to the mindset of a extraction game, going out to rat-run the battlefield every day to search for valuable items, bringing them back to the Lower Hive, and selling the loot to various gang contacts in exchange for items to upgrade the Hideout.
Returning to the present, Li Qinwu, who only had a combat knife on him, had already crawled over to the autogun and cradled it in his arms to inspect it.
This was a rectangular autogun hastily put together by the rebels using spare parts. Its ergonomics were terrible, and it was quite heavy at seven kilograms.
Li Qinwu glanced down the barrel; it had rifling. A spark of joy flared in his chest—a rifled gun was worth more.
He opened the magazine: twenty rounds of makeshift rebel ammunition inside. Eyeballing it, the caliber was 9x65mm, which counted as a massive caliber that ordinary people could never handle.
There was no helping that; there were simply too many freaks and monsters in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, and the 5.56mm and 7.62mm rounds that had prevailed in the 3rd Millennium simply could not hold their ground.
Confirming the gun wasn't damaged by the explosion, Li Qinwu opened the Search-Shoot-Extract System in his mind and used it to check the gun's stats.
Name: Rebel-Crafted Autogun Reference Value: Approx. 2,000 Fertilizer Coupons Weight: 7.2 kg Vertical Recoil Control: 54 Horizontal Recoil Control: 42 Ergonomics: 41 Hold Stability: 42 Accuracy: 50 Hip-Fire Stability: 61 Effective Range: 500 m Muzzle Velocity: 950 Fire Mode: Full-auto Rate of Fire: 550 Ammo Caliber: 9x65mm Firing Power: Medium
Li Qinwu was very satisfied. This gun was worth 2,000. As far as he knew, a low-level farmer on an agri-world had a monthly consumption of 150 Fertilizer Coupons, meaning this single gun was worth a farmer's entire living expenses for a year!
He slung the gun across his back, lay flat in the plowed field for ten minutes, and confirmed that no one else was coming before carefully jumping down into the rebel trench to arrive at the spot where the shell had just exploded.
The dozen rebels had been completely shredded by that shell, and the ground was covered in mangled remains.
Li Qinwu spat a glob of saliva, endured the bloody stench, and began looting the bodies. After a busy round of work, he acquired the following items:
One 20-round autogun magazine, sixty rounds of 9x65mm ammunition, one dagger, one axe, one wrench, four packs of biscuits, and a full canteen—totaling a value of 120 Fertilizer Coupons.
He tossed all these items into the artificial leather backpack on his back and swept his eyes around the trench.
This trench had been dug right through the agricultural fields; it was currently occupied by the rebels, but it had originally been dug by the planetary defense forces. When the rebels pushed up here, the planetary defense forces fell back to other defensive lines.
Maybe in a few days, the planetary defense forces would launch a counter-assault and recapture the trench. Li Qinwu's whole purpose was to come out and scrape the land clean during the downtime between the two armies' rests.
He explored further down the trench for a while. This wasn't a continuous network of trenches, but rather a skirmish trench that had only garrisoned ten rebels. Since they were all blown to smithereens by the artillery shell, there was no one else here, leaving him free to loot to his heart's content.
A quick search yielded nothing very valuable, and the backpack's value was now only around 2,300, with the autogun still making up the bulk of it.
"Damn, this tastes awful!"
Li Qinwu spat. A backpack full of junk, mostly food, and not even a minor blue or purple item—how boring.
He figured it was about time to extract, and just as he planned to leave, a set of footsteps drifted over. His heart tightened, and he hurriedly gripped the autogun in his hand.
The sound came from the Hive City direction. He cautiously poked his head out of the trench, then quickly pulled it back in.
"Holy shit! A Planetary Defense Force squad!"
Sneaking up was a Planetary Defense Force squad consisting of ten men. The entire crew was equipped with flak armor, helmets, and standard-issue autoguns, while the squad leader carried a laspistol and grenades. They were the most basic armed forces of the Imperium.
Li Qinwu turned tail and bolted for the other side of the trench. Although he wasn't a rebel, he was in a rebel trench; the Planetary Defense Force wouldn't give him a chance to explain, and popping his head out meant getting instantly killed.
He intended to slip out from the far side of the trench and take a detour back to his Hideout in the lower depths of the Hive City.
Yet the moment he reached the other side of the trench and poked his head out, he saw over fifty rebels sneaking up.
"Shit! I'm caught in a pincer attack!"
