Ch. 521Father Anthony Joins
Plot points and events
- Li Qinwu wakes from a nap to find Father Anthony attending to him, then treats him like a servant and requests a comical performance.
- Realizing Anthony cannot reach the Industrial World before Inquisitor Thraxol’s fleet departs, Li Qinwu proposes sending him through the Warp in an armored, rune-protected container guided by a Warp Beacon.
- Li Qinwu explains the dangers and gives Anthony a pistol in case he becomes corrupted. Anthony chooses to take the risk and enters the Warp.
- Li Qinwu later reopens the portal aboard Thraxol’s warship and finds Anthony unharmed. Anthony says the journey felt like two minutes, although Li Qinwu believes six hours passed—evidence that Warp time differs from realspace.
- After checking Anthony for corruption and showing him the ship, Li Qinwu assigns him a room. Anthony chooses to focus on research, an area Li Qinwu’s forces lack.
Character developments and interactions
- Father Anthony moves from serving Li Qinwu in comic, exaggerated fashion to making a decisive, risky choice to join him. He is motivated by a desire to escape a stagnant life and contribute through research.
- Li Qinwu demonstrates care and responsibility by explaining the Warp’s risks and letting Anthony choose, while also relying on his unusual resurrection and portal abilities to reunite with him.
- Their relationship mixes playful master-servant banter with genuine trust: Anthony jokes about the pistol being for suicide, but ultimately accepts Li Qinwu’s plan.

- The Warp’s unpredictability: Its danger is compounded by its strange relationship to time.
