Background / History

Little Black originated as an egg discovered in the Skyspine Wasteland by the final emperor of the Azure Cloud Ancient Kingdom. The emperor brought it to the capital and enshrined it as the kingdom’s guardian divine beast, but Great Li destroyed the kingdom before the egg could hatch. 205

After the kingdom’s fall, Little Black remained sealed for more than a thousand years as a restoration “seed” inside the National Fortune Jade. When Su Yueli entered the jade’s white-mist world, she found it as a tiny, weakened Ink Qilin-like creature. Its bloodline possessed a predatory talent: it could grow stronger through killing and drinking blood. 44

Su Yueli refused to take the weak creature into the outside world because she could not protect it from stronger cultivators. To avoid remaining imprisoned, Little Black abandoned its physical body and fused with her Shadow Fist Blade. The merger elevated the weapon to Heaven Tier, formed a mental bond with Su Yueli, and made it an evolving blood-drinking divine weapon. Su Yueli rejected its extremely long official title and named it “Little Black.” 44

Little Black accompanied Su Yueli through thirty-five years of hunting in the Imperial Mausoleum. It repeatedly consumed demon blood, helped her survive lethal battles, and became her only companion during prolonged isolation. 45

Centuries later, Little Black learned more of its past through Gu Chen: it had been the Azure Cloud Ancient Kingdom’s guardian beast, but its true birthplace lay in the Skyspine Wasteland. It remained unable to remember Gu Chen because it had not yet hatched when the ancient kingdom fell. 201 202 205

After its encounter with Mo Cang, Little Black became an important participant in Su Yueli’s pursuit of Motian Xing. Its sensitivity to demonic aura and death qi helped uncover the demon’s agents, collection formations, and traces of Shen Huai’an’s resistance to possession. During the later battlefield confrontation, Motian Xing attacked its Sea of Consciousness with a demon soul containing the lingering consciousnesses of countless dead. Su Yueli caught Little Black as it fell; it remained alive but unconscious. 238 250 263 264 282

Appearance

Little Black’s natural form is a miniature Ink Qilin: pitch-black, horned, scaled, and capable of appearing either comically round and small or immense and imposing. 44 175

Personality

Little Black is intensely food-motivated. It craves demon blood, powerful corpses, medicinal pills, and even rare weapons, frequently competing with Su Yueli’s Martial Soul for its share of cultivation resources. 45 59 105 175

Despite its greed, it is loyal and emotionally dependent on Su Yueli. It protected her during battles that badly damaged its blade body, comforts her when she is discouraged, and instinctively obeys her authority when she divides resources or orders it to retreat. 45 81 105 106

Its attachment extends to its lost homeland and bloodline. Little Black grieved over Gu Chen’s failure to recognize it and pleaded for Su Yueli to spare Mo Cang, even after Mo Cang had attacked and humiliated it. 206 216

Little Black also shows practical judgment and a willingness to challenge Su Yueli when her emotions affect her decisions. During the pursuit of Motian Xing, it bluntly explained that Shen Huai’an’s blood, soul traces, and belongings could be used as bait, then questioned why she continued following leads she knew might be fabricated. It also raised the consequences of leaving the dynastic conflicts unattended when she chose to investigate the Sunset Immortal-Burial Pit. 262 263

Bloodthirsty Evolution

Little Black inherited an ancient bloodthirsty bloodline that allows it to advance by killing and consuming blood essence. 44

The ability has important limitations. Motian Xing’s concealment reduced his aura to occasional fluctuations that were insufficient to pinpoint him, while aura carried by other demonic cultivators could create false trails. Shen Huai’an’s genuine blood, soul fragments, and possessions likewise made unreliable leads appear convincing. 240 262

Formation Analysis and Disruption

Little Black can examine formation patterns and identify their functions through direct contact and perception. 264 282

• Touched the death-qi channeling patterns in the Sunset Immortal-Burial Pit and shook apart the black qi that coiled around its paw. 264

Azure Cloud Ancient Kingdom Ruins

Little Black’s meeting with Su Yueli transforms the abandoned kingdom’s last restoration seed into her evolving weapon spirit. Its fusion with the Shadow Fist Blade gives Su Yueli a Heaven-Tier weapon and begins their long partnership. 44

Imperial Mausoleum Cultivation

Little Black helps Su Yueli hunt Second-Realm demon beasts for decades. The pair establish a routine of surviving brutal battles, dividing demon blood, healing, and cultivating. 45

After leaving the mausoleum, Little Black shatters Pang Jinbiao’s inherited Heaven-Tier golden saber and channels Su Yueli’s Inch Force into a decisive strike. It then consumes the blood vitality of Pang Jinbiao and four Seventh-Realm experts, strengthening its foundation. 47

Eternal Wasteland and Great Tomb

Little Black competes with the Mutated Martial Soul for the remains of powerful demons, evolves through the Demon Leech’s blood, and gains Martial Weapon Runes. 105 109 113

Azure Cloud Sect and Azure Moon Sect Conflicts

Little Black serves as Su Yueli’s concealed Emperor-Tier weapon, devours Primordial Spirits, supports her escape from the Heaven-Locking Mirror, and manifests in battle against Fourteenth-Realm enemies. 128 133 186

Earlier in the Azure Cloud Sect pursuit, it was badly cracked while protecting Su Yueli from Elder Han and rubbed its blade against her cheek to awaken her after the battle. Later, it recovered its Darkness Origin during her 110 years in hiding. 81 136

During the Azure Moon Sect battle, its autonomous Ink Qilin defense and return to fist-blade form helped Su Yueli regain the initiative against Shen Tianzhou. The prolonged fighting and activation of the Ultimate Dao Fifth Form exhausted it, but devouring Cangming True Lord and Lu Kuangsheng restored its divine markings and substantially increased its power. 186 198

Skyspine Wasteland

Little Black recognizes the Skyspine Wasteland as its birthplace and encounters Mo Cang, an ancient member of its ancestral clan. After Mo Cang’s death, consuming his flesh and blood advances Little Black to the Middle Grade of the Emperor Tier. 213 215 217

Su Yueli’s protectiveness toward Little Black drives her confrontation with Mo Cang after he attacks the smaller Qilin. Little Black nevertheless pleads for its ancestor’s life, prompting Su Yueli to offer Mo Cang a chance to survive by submitting and becoming an artifact spirit. 215 216

Pursuit of Motian Xing and the Dynastic War

Little Black’s tracking ability becomes central to Su Yueli’s attempts to locate Motian Xing after he retreats into hiding. Although his concealed aura initially prevents a precise discovery, Little Black links later massacres to his demonic arts and identifies death qi gathering westward. 238 240 242 244 248

At Azure River Pass, Little Black prevents a Twelfth-Realm demonic cultivator from escaping by destroying his teleportation talisman. After Su Yueli uncovers Motian Xing’s use of planted agents and death-qi collection pillars, Little Black follows a westbound strand of death qi. 250

As Motian Xing repeatedly leaves misleading traces of Shen Huai’an, Little Black explains how borrowed aura and genuine personal belongings can be used to lure Su Yueli away from the battlefield. A later discovery in the Old City provides stronger evidence: Little Black detects a conflict between two consciousnesses and uncovers Shen’s hidden blood-written message pointing toward the Sunset Immortal-Burial Pit. 262 263

At the pit, Little Black helps examine the death-qi formations and discovers Shen Huai’an’s remaining divine sense. The projection confirms his unwilling possession and asks Su Yueli to kill both him and Motian Xing if necessary. Little Black subsequently accompanies Su Yueli in tracking the demon’s agents and identifies an underground site containing maps and assassination records as one liaison point within a network spanning all eight dynasties. 264 270

Battlefield Formation and Incapacitation

When Su Yueli confronts Motian Xing on the battlefield, she orders Han Yu to take Little Black away. As Han Yu protects the withdrawing troops, Little Black absorbs part of the deathly energy unleashed against them. 273

During Motian Xing’s later formation trap, Little Black discovers that the barrier absorbs spiritual power and warns the armies to stop attacking. It enlarges its body and destroys one of the eight formation pillars, but Motian Xing sends a demon soul directly at it. The soul enters Little Black’s Sea of Consciousness, causing the consciousnesses of countless dead to erupt within it. 282

Su Yueli catches Little Black as it falls. It remains alive but cannot be awakened. The attack it sustained would otherwise have been capable of shattering the Divine Souls of hundreds of thousands of cultivators below. With Little Black incapacitated, the destroyed pillar re-forms; Motian Xing ultimately absorbs the formation’s accumulated power and reaches the Fifteenth Realm. 282

• Little Black’s original self-proclaimed title was “Azure Cloud's Imperially Bestowed Supreme Golden Body Great General, Protector of the Nation.” Su Yueli rejected it as too long and named it after its black coloration. 44
