Ryan's vicious words left the two bound men looking conflicted.

In truth, they did not quite believe Ryan's threats, but why take the risk?

They had only an ordinary relationship with the person who had given them the information. There was absolutely no need to risk themselves to keep his secret.

"Kron told us. He said you had just inherited a large fortune, had amnesia, and lived alone with that little girl. You were the perfect target for a job." After hesitating for a while, one of the kidnappers spoke.

"Who is Kron?" Ryan asked with a frown.

He had never heard that name, but he knew the information from this body's past. Could Kron have been an acquaintance of this body's former owner?

"He's a lawyer. He runs a law firm on Third Avenue. We got to know him because we used to help him investigate information."

"Buddy, believe me, he was completely behind this. It really didn't have much to do with the two of us!"

The other kidnapper took over, begging for mercy.

Didn't have much to do with them? Ryan snorted coldly and did not feel like speaking.

He had been lucky to discover it in advance this time. Otherwise, who knew what might have happened.

As for that lawyer, he was probably the guy who had cheated him out of three thousand dollars a few days ago.

He had heard two days ago that Uncle Mocha had exposed plenty of the man's dirty secrets. His reputation in legal circles had been utterly ruined. If he wanted revenge over that, doing something like this was hardly surprising.

After staring deeply at the two kidnappers, who were forcing fawning smiles, Ryan reached into his pocket and stopped his phone's recording. He said to them, "Everything you said just now has been recorded. When we get to court, remember to testify against that lawyer named Kron. Then, perhaps I might consider asking for a lighter sentence for you."

Ignoring the two men's red-eyed shouting, he walked over to John and said, "Sorry to trouble you, John. Because of me, no one got to enjoy Christmas properly."

"I thought you were going to beat the hell out of those two." Rather than respond to Ryan's thanks, John glanced at the kidnappers.

"I had planned to, but Annie insisted on being here. I couldn't exactly show violence in front of a child." Ryan sounded rather helpless. He really had wanted to beat those two up to vent his anger, but when he saw Annie's obvious disappointment, he shook his head.

This child's education needed more attention!

"Heh!" Seeing Ryan's helpless expression, John chuckled and patted him on the shoulder. "Want me to take these two to the police station for you?"

"Of course. I can catch a ride too. I still need to visit an elder's home tonight!" Ryan nodded.

Everything that followed went very smoothly. The two kidnappers were taken to the police station, and by the time David dropped Ryan and Annie off at the building where Mocha lived, night had already fallen.

"I didn't expect you to handle this by calling the police." Annie watched David's van drive away, her voice carrying an inexplicable sense of disappointment.

"How did you think I would handle it? Kill them?" Ryan laughed and rubbed Annie's head. "Wherever there are people, there are rules. Most of the time, we need to rely on the power of those rules. Breaking them is a last resort."

Ryan paused, then continued, "Of course, if you possess the power to overturn everything, that's another matter."

Annie nodded as though she understood, committing it all to memory.

She was intelligent, but she still lacked experience. What had happened today had given her a vivid lesson.

The two headed upstairs. Before long, they reached Mocha's door. Ryan knocked, and Aunt Rose, dressed dazzlingly, warmly opened the door and welcomed them inside.

"You look beautiful today,

like an angel!" Ryan hugged Rose and greeted her with a cheek kiss, praising her.

"That's not nearly as flattering as you make it sound. I'm practically an old woman already!"

Rose was delighted by the compliment.

"No, I'm telling the truth. If you walked down the street now, plenty of young men would turn around to stare at you and walk right into trees."

Ryan's deliberately serious expression made Rose giggle again. "Little Ryan, your mouth is much sweeter than before. But Christmas dinner is already ready. If you two had come any later, that old man Mocha would have eaten it all!"

Rose's last remark clearly annoyed Mocha in the living room. He came out and shot Rose a fierce glare, then frowned when he saw the gift boxes Annie was carrying.

"Coming was enough. Why did you bring gifts?"

"Christmas needs Santa Claus to deliver presents. Otherwise, how could it be Christmas?" Ryan blinked, lifted Annie—who was dressed as Santa Claus—into his arms, and whispered in her ear, "Sweeten your words a little. Don't be like that night, leaving without even saying goodbye!"

"I don't need you to remind me!" Annie rolled her eyes sideways at Ryan, then handed one of the boxes to Rose and said obediently, "Aunt Rose, I picked this gift out for you."

"Oh? Did adorable little Annie choose it? That moves your aunt so much. May I open it?"

Rose praised her and asked.

"Of course!"

Annie nodded.

The gift box was wrapped very carefully. When the final layer was lifted away, a pearl necklace sparkling beneath the lights appeared before everyone.

"This is too expensive, Little Ryan."

Rose's expression turned serious, while Mocha's brow furrowed even more deeply.

As the wife of a well-known lawyer, she certainly did not lack jewelry. But with one look, she knew that necklace had to cost at least five thousand dollars. In fact, its actual price was about what she had guessed.

"No, no. It's merely a small token for an elder. It has nothing to do with money. Besides, if you don't accept it, Aunt Rose, Annie will be very disappointed. She picked this gift out with great effort!"

"That's right, Aunt Rose. Let me put it on for you, okay? This necklace will definitely suit you. You'll look absolutely beautiful!"

Annie spoke with a hint of expectation in her voice, making her impossible to refuse.

Rose looked down at Annie, then finally smiled. "All right, then. I'll leave it to you, little Annie!"

Rose crouched down and let Annie put the necklace on her. Ryan watched for a moment, then handed the other gift box to Mocha.

"What is this?"

As Mocha accepted the gift and began unwrapping it, he asked.

"Uh, a watch."

Ryan always felt a sense of pressure around Mocha, so he answered honestly.

"Vacheron Constantin?"

Seeing the brand of the watch, Mocha—who had already been mentally prepared—furrowed his brow and admonished, "Be more careful with your spending in the future."

Ryan hurriedly nodded.
