Background

Before his Martial Soul awakening, Tang San secretly cultivated the Mysterious Heaven Technique and the Purple Demon Eyes at sunrise. Jiede discovered his routine and offered access to the Basic Soul Beast Compendium in exchange for instruction. Tang San agreed, but protected Tang Sect secrets by teaching only the Mysterious Heaven Technique’s physical movements and giving false instructions for the Purple Demon Eyes. He nevertheless memorized the compendium’s contents. 1 2

After learning from Old Jack that Jiede possessed a Ten-Year Brittle Bamboo, Tang San secretly cut down and absorbed the soul beast’s ring. The absorption broke the Mysterious Heaven Technique’s bottleneck before his Martial Soul awakening. 3 4

At Holy Soul Village’s awakening ceremony, Tang San revealed only Blue Silver Grass while concealing his Clear Sky Hammer. He tested at Innate Full Soul Power, but Su Yuntao dismissed Blue Silver Grass as useless. 4

Tang Hao initially rejected Tang San’s ambition to become a Soul Master because of Blue Silver Grass. His attitude changed immediately when Tang San revealed the Clear Sky Hammer; Tang Hao instructed him to use the hammer to protect the grass. 6

Personality

Tang San is guarded, secretive, and protective of information he considers valuable. He withholds Tang Sect methods from Jiede, hides both his Clear Sky Hammer and pre-awakening Soul Ring, and prepares concealed weapons when he believes he is threatened. 2 4 7 8

He is deeply dependent on the approval of Tang Hao and quickly becomes devoted to Yu Xiaogang after the latter correctly identifies his Twin Martial Souls. This loyalty makes him defensive when others criticize either man. 6 8 16

His pride and competitiveness are especially visible in his rivalry with Jiede. Although Tang San recognizes that his own reckless Soul Ring absorption was a mistake, he redirects much of his resentment toward Jiede and resolves to surpass him. 9 18

Notting Academy Conflict

At Notting Academy, Tang San became Yu Xiaogang’s disciple after the latter correctly guessed that he possessed Twin Martial Souls. Yu Xiaogang soon exposed Tang San’s first ring as a weak Ten-Year Brittle Bamboo ring rather than the “Green Bamboo” Tang San claimed it was, leading to Tang Hao’s punishment and Tang San’s growing hostility toward Jiede. 8 9

When Yu Xiaogang tried to pressure Jiede into becoming a disciple, Tang San defended his master and challenged Jiede. Wang Sheng fought in Jiede’s place; Tang San won, but only after Yu Xiaogang shouted a warning and Tang San used Blue Silver Entanglement. 16 17

Second Soul Ring Hunt

While hunting for Tang San’s second Soul Ring, Yu Xiaogang was poisoned by a 900-year Mandrake Snake. With ordinary antidotes ineffective, Tang San absorbed the snake’s Soul Ring despite it exceeding the normal limit, then used his new venom-related ability to cure Yu Xiaogang. 26
