Background

Xuanzi intervened during Lin Yuan’s match against Xu Sanshi after the latter collapsed from the backlash of Lin Yuan’s Yin-Yang Fire. Panicked by Xu Sanshi’s status as the Black Tortoise Sect’s young master and a member of the Dou Ling imperial family, Xuanzi forcibly poured soul power into him; the attempt aggravated Xu Sanshi’s damaged body instead of healing it. He then accused Lin Yuan of attempting murder and demanded that his tournament qualification be revoked. 3

After Xu Sanshi died, Xuanzi repeatedly attempted to punish Lin Yuan despite the tournament setting and the objections of Jing Hongchen and the Star Luo Empire. He released his Rank 98 pressure against Lin Yuan, tried to attack him directly, and later justified his pursuit by calling Lin an evil soul master. Jing Hongchen’s intervention and the threat of war with the Sun Moon Empire repeatedly forced him to pull back. 4 5 9 10

Xuanzi approved Ma Xiaotao’s lethal challenge against Lin Yuan, then rescued her after she was defeated by Qilin Step. In attempting to contain her darkened state, he sealed her soul power; this allowed the Hades Sword’s Withering Force to continue consuming her lifespan and ultimately caused her death. 5 9 10

Following Shrek’s loss, Xuanzi chose to surrender the tournament rather than risk the remaining students against the Sun Moon Empire’s hidden strength. He subdued Huo Yuhao when the latter refused to accept the decision, but left Lin Yuan with an explicit threat of future retaliation. 11

Outside Star Luo City, Xuanzi ambushed the Sun Moon delegation and demanded Lin Yuan’s surrender. He revealed his Taotie Divine Bull Martial Soul Avatar and defeated Jing Hongchen’s two Ninth-Level Fixed Soul Guidance Cannons through spatial control, but Lin Yuan summoned Gu Yuena to confront him. 12 13

Gu Yuena completely suppressed Xuanzi with spatial compression, Elemental Cage, and Elemental Tide. Cornered, he apologized to Gu Yuena and Lin Yuan, then admitted that jealousy of Lin Yuan’s talent and fear for Shrek’s future had motivated him. He attempted to escape by burning his life force and later by destabilizing his Soul Core, but Mu En’s hidden Radiant Holy Dragon power was the only reason he survived. 14 15 16

Xuanzi returned to Shrek missing his right arm and with most of his strength, lifespan, and institutional standing destroyed. Mu En rebuked him for endangering Shrek’s reputation, while Yan Shaozhe and the Sea God Pavilion increasingly treated him as an unstable liability. Though isolated and barred from freely entering the Sea God Pavilion, Xuanzi continued to blame Lin Yuan rather than accept responsibility. 18 19

When Shrek sought an exchange-student agreement with the Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineer Academy, Xuanzi initially refused the demand that he publicly apologize. Mu En made clear that Shrek would abandon him if he continued to obstruct the academy’s interests, forcing Xuanzi to accept the concession. 34

Appearance

Before his crippling, Xuanzi commonly appeared in dark-yellow light and could transform into an immense Taotie Divine Bull. After escaping Gu Yuena, he became visibly aged and maimed. 3 13 18

Personality

Xuanzi is impulsive, proud, and deeply biased toward Shrek Academy. He treats harm to Shrek students as intolerable while dismissing the deaths of Sun Moon Academy students, leading to repeated public accusations of hypocrisy. 3 4 10

He frames his actions as the duty of eliminating evil soul masters, but his own confession reveals that jealousy and fear of Lin Yuan’s future strength were central motives for targeting him. 12 15 When Shrek’s surviving students were at risk, however, he chose preservation over pride and forced the academy to surrender the tournament. 11

After losing his strength and status, Xuanzi becomes resentful and defensive rather than repentant. He recognizes that others are judging his past recklessness, yet continues directing his hatred toward Lin Yuan. 19
