Background / History

Sword God Mountain once stood as the orthodox authority of swordsmanship and commanded sword cultivators throughout the world. Its inheritance spread widely enough that much of the world's sword path originated from it. At its height, its cultivators could fight across major realms, and the title “Number One Sword Under Heaven” traditionally belonged to one of its members. 1 6 18 23 114

The sect’s decline began around the time the path to the Heaven Realm was severed and the God Realm vanished. Its loss of the Supreme Treasure known as Sword Inquiry Cliff further crippled its ability to help disciples comprehend and condense true Spirit, Void, Emperor, and Heaven Swords. As a result, many later disciples possessed only the form of the sect’s sword cultivation without its substance. 22 56 79

Sword God Mountain also bears the consequences of its founder’s attempt to carve an independent Sword Dao from the Great Dao. The resulting Dao Sword suffered backlash, became a lifespan-devouring Forbidden Sword, and was sealed within the Sword Abyss by generations of sect powerhouses. 28

Although weakened, the sect retained formidable hidden foundations, including the Sword Abyss, Divine Swords, the God Sword Talisman, and other inherited protections. Chen Cang’s presence as the final peak Sword Cultivator also preserved its standing during its lowest period. 20 27 68 98

Sword God Mountain’s cultivation system requires disciples to form swords resonating with their own cultivation. A Mystic Sword contains its owner’s essence, energy, and spirit; after its owner dies, its grade and power deteriorate sharply. 5

At the Profound Sword stage, disciples choose a sword compatible with their Profound Sword. At the Spirit Sword stage, they may draw it into their bodies and develop its spirit. In its prime, this system allowed Sword God Mountain cultivators to contend with opponents above their own realm. 8

Foundations and Inheritances

Sword Abyss

The Sword Abyss is Sword God Mountain’s deepest known inheritance site. Its depths contain Divine Swords and nine swords surpassing ordinary divine swords, arranged around a Jade Stele. The swords attack non-disciples and appear to guard or nurture the sect’s hidden legacy. 27 28

After Su Fan subdued the Forbidden Sword, the Abyss’s life-draining force weakened. True disciples could then enter for brief periods to seek insight or inheritances from the swords. 29

Forbidden Sword

The Forbidden Sword originated as a Dao Sword created by the founder’s attempt to establish a Sword Dao separate from the Great Dao. Its uncontrolled appetite for vitality and lifespan caused it to be sealed, as it could otherwise devour the life force of all things to strengthen itself. 28

• It was sealed beneath the Sword Abyss.
• It drains the lifespan and vitality of sword cultivators.
• Its recovery strengthened Sword God Mountain’s fortune and enabled the Jade Stele to begin nurturing another Dao Sword. 29 147

Sword Dao Steles

The Sword Dao Steles correspond to the Spirit Sword, Void Sword, and Emperor Sword realms. They allow qualified disciples to comprehend the sect’s sword dao and condense true swords rather than incomplete imitations. 81

God Sword Talisman

The God Sword Talisman is one of Sword God Mountain’s surviving foundations.

• A former Sword Master used one to temporarily open the Heaven and Earth Shackles, though the breach was too brief and left him heavily injured. 121
• Chen Cang states that it can shatter the Eye of the Iron Law, though not erase it permanently. 156

Sword Formations

Sword God Mountain possesses inherited sword formations, including the Raging Wave Sword Formation. During the Eastern Region conflict, the Great Elder led sword cultivators with this formation to inflict major losses on the Northern Wild army. 85 125

Decline

Sword God Mountain’s decline was driven by several documented factors:

• Loss of Sword Inquiry Cliff — Without the sect’s former Supreme Treasure, disciples could no longer reliably comprehend and condense true Spirit, Void, and Emperor Swords. 56 79
• Exceptional talent requirements — The sect’s sword dao demands unusually high sword talent, while such geniuses became rarer after the sect lost its former prestige and ability to attract them. 79
• Depletion of foundations — Its surviving treasures and inherited weapons were repeatedly consumed in past wars against forces seeking to destroy the weakened sect. 68
• Heaven and Earth Shackles — The shackles severed advancement toward the Heaven Realm and coincided with the sect’s decline. 22
• Iron Law Array — Sword cultivators of Sword God Mountain were forbidden from entering the Central Continent; the array was specifically designed to suppress them and contained stolen shackles power and God Realm might. 156 159

Revival

Su Fan’s emergence as the Sword Saint transformed Sword God Mountain’s status. His victories over Leng Tu, Ling Jue, Zang Mo, Heaven Realm demons, and Venerable Hall envoys restored the sect’s reputation across the Eastern Region and later the Central Continent. 39 99 134 162 193

The recovery of the Forbidden Sword and activation of the Sword Dao Steles allowed disciples and elders to cultivate the complete inheritance again. Sword God Mountain began producing true sword cultivators, while sword formations and sword-path methods were taught more broadly. 81 83 85 115

A wave of prospective sword cultivators spread through the Eastern Region after the Sword Saint’s rise, with cultivators and talented youths seeking admission to Sword God Mountain. 77 115

The sect’s revival became even more significant after Su Fan shattered the Iron Law Array and entered the Central Continent, ending the restriction that had trapped Sword God Mountain sword cultivators outside it. 161 162
