| Inner Qi Circulation Method comprehended | 53 | Lin Fan completely memorizes the Su Family’s Inner Qi Circulation Method in half an hour under a 1,000-fold cultivation effect, gaining the required foundation to nurture Inner Qi. |
| First strand formed | 55 | After one hour using a 3,000-fold cultivation effect, Lin Fan forms his first strand of Inner Qi. More than 300 strands are normally needed to fill the body and attempt the Bright Force Realm breakthrough. |
| More than 100 strands | 58 | Several days of cultivation at a 12,000-fold effect give Lin Fan over one hundred strands, though the rapid accumulation causes severe physical discomfort. |
| More than 180 streams | 61 | Lin Fan reports possessing over 180 streams of Inner Qi while preparing for the Flower Thief’s threat. |
| Manifest Force True Qi | 64 | Lin Fan’s hundreds of streams merge into a dense, enduring flow of Manifest Force True Qi as he enters the Bright Force Realm. |
| Nearly 300 strands restored | 83 | After recovering from battle for two days, Lin Fan’s Inner Qi returns to nearly three hundred strands. |
Cultivation
Inner Qi is cultivated after the Three Body-Tempering Realms and is the foundation of the Three Qi-Force Realms. A martial artist must first reach the Late Bone Tempering Realm, then use an Inner Qi Circulation Method to nurture strands of Inner Qi within the body. Once the body is filled with sufficient Inner Qi and the energy can be projected externally, the practitioner may enter the Bright Force Realm 25 54 55.
The initial overview of the martial path names the Qi-Force stages as Manifest Force, Transforming Force, and Astral Force, while later accounts describe Bright Force, Transforming Force, and Steel Force 1 52.
Qi-Force Realm Manifestations
| Realm | Inner Qi manifestation |
|---|---|
| Bright Force Realm | Inner Qi protects the body, speeds recovery from nonfatal injuries, and can be released to attack opponents. Entering this realm increases lifespan by thirty years 12 52. |
| Transforming Force Realm | Inner Qi can be shaped into constructs such as weapons or wings, allowing techniques including aerial movement and long-range attacks 52. |
| Steel Force Realm | Inner Qi becomes more condensed and forms a near-invulnerable protective layer around the body 52. |
Properties & Applications
Combat Enhancement
Inner Qi greatly strengthens offense, defense, endurance, and control once a martial artist reaches the Bright Force Realm.
- It can be projected beyond the body as a lethal external attack 52 55.
- It can reinforce weapons; Lin Fan channels Inner Qi through his Hundred-Forged Spear to keep it intact against the Flower Thief’s attacks 68.
- A Bright Force Realm practitioner can use Inner Qi to maintain formidable defense and rapidly heal injuries that are not immediately fatal 52.
- Lin Fan uses Inner Qi to revive the gravely wounded Zhou Hu and another Bone Tempering Realm survivor 72.
Empowerment
Inner Qi can be transferred into another being to strengthen their cultivation, but this normally costs the donor part of their own hard-earned progress 12.
- The Flower Thief grants the White Ram Gang leader a strand of Inner Qi, healing his injuries and pushing his cultivation toward the Late Bone Tempering Realm 56.
- Lin Fan transfers a strand into Big Ox, allowing him to directly enter the Mid Skin Tempering Realm 83.
- Lin Fan similarly empowers Uncle Wang to the Mid Skin Tempering Realm 83.
- Inner Qi can also catalyze wild beasts into Ferocious Beasts, though orthodox martial artists generally avoid the practice because of its high cost 22.
Control and Restraint
Lin Fan can use Inner Qi as both a coercive and rewarding tool.
- He places threads of Inner Qi inside two Bone Tempering Realm captives’ skulls; the threads can be detonated at his command if they betray him 74.
- After establishing this restraint, he transfers gentler Inner Qi into the captives’ meridians to improve their cultivation and secure their willing submission 74.
- A fine thread of Inner Qi can kill instantly, as demonstrated when Lin Fan executes Bai Jingtian 74.
Movement and Support
Inner Qi can improve mobility and sustain other living creatures.
- Lin Fan circulates Inner Qi through his feet to travel faster on foot than by horse within town 77.
- He injects gentle Inner Qi into two exhausted demon-beast steeds, increasing their speed by roughly fifty percent 77.
- He plans to use Inner Qi to elevate Mao Mao into a demon beast after reaching the Bright Force Realm 34.
Orthodox and Demonic Qualities
Inner Qi reflects the nature of its cultivation method.
- Lin Fan’s Inner Qi is described as warm, stable, upright, and free of demonic influence when inspected by Lu Qian 84.
- The Flower Thief’s demonic Inner Qi is black or bluish-black, carries a cold and sinister aura, and leaves corrosive traces at battle sites 52 68 84.
- The Flower Thief’s dual-cultivation method produces rapid gains, but mixing Inner Qi harvested from many victims creates inconsistencies that make later breakthroughs increasingly difficult 79.
Inner Qi Circulation Methods
- Su Family’s Inner Qi Circulation Method — A secret Su Family technique for guiding qi and blood, stimulating acupoints, and generating Inner Qi. Su Yuanshan lends it to Lin Fan before his Bright Force Realm breakthrough 53.
- White Ram Gang Inner Qi Circulation Method — A method recovered from the White Ram Gang’s Scripture Repository after the gang’s defeat 73.
- River Inner Qi Art — A legitimate, reasonably effective circulation method kept by the White Sand Gang 77.
- Demonic dual-cultivation method — A secret manual taken from the Flower Thief. Lin Fan refuses to cultivate it and conceals it for later study of its weaknesses 79.
Different Inner Qi methods have varying compatibility with individual physiques and meridians. Most compatibility differences improve cultivation speed by only ten to twenty percent, though major martial organizations may possess tailored methods with greater efficiency 77.
