The Administrator Reports to Work

When Ging landed, the stone path beneath his feet had tilted so steeply that no one could stand on it.

Razor landed a moment later, his shoulder slamming into the wall. He grabbed List by the collar and hauled him upward.

The Blue Crystal identification clasps on all three of them flashed at the same time, then quickly dimmed.

Three black roots immediately shot out from the wall.

Razor raised a hand, and three demons blocked the way ahead. The roots pierced the demons, pinning them hard into the stone wall.

Razor looked at his identification clasp. "This thing stopped working?"

List was being dragged down the slope, yet he still managed to fire off a tiny marker. It stuck to the wall, its red light flashing for half a second before the wall swallowed it.

Ging twisted aside to avoid a root stabbing at his waist and pressed a palm against the wall.

The wall contracted once.

He stepped onto a protruding stone pattern and slid three meters down the slope, landing just clear of the next wave of roots.

"It should still be working. These roots aren't trying to kill us."

Razor released two more demons, holding down the left and right sides.

"You call this not trying to kill us?"

A root stabbed past his ear, punching a deep hole into the stone wall behind him.

Ging did not turn around.

"A killing mechanism wouldn't attack in such a steady rhythm."

List understood immediately. He reshaped the markers in his hand into thin needles and fired them continuously along both sides of the stone path.

"The left side contracts every nine steps, the right every seven. There's a gap in the middle."

"Take the middle."
