Ging is relaxed, teasing, and difficult to intimidate, even when dealing with supernatural hazards. He acknowledges fear but insists that fear does not excuse avoiding a problem, pushing Bai Zhu to confront the consequences of his unpaid “rent” rather than hide from them 173.

He is also manipulative in practical, bureaucratic ways. He binds Bai Zhu to the Mingbo commission through temporary Association clearance, hotel registration, and prepaid expenses, then physically removes him from the hotel when Bai Zhu tries to withdraw 171. His casual manner conceals sharp strategic judgment: he studies opponents before acting, downplays his own capabilities, and favors useful restraint over unnecessary killing 213 219.

Despite frequent insults and threats to abandon Bai Zhu, Ging repeatedly protects him in battle. He treats cooperation as a practical necessity, but his actions during the Hecatos battle reveal strong loyalty to his partner 299 301.

Ging values investigation over conventional displays of effort. He argues that Ruin Hunters should study routes, inscriptions, mechanisms, and creatures rather than solve every problem with their fists. Netero nevertheless criticizes his reluctance to file reports and threatens to reduce his resources, revealing a longstanding tension between Ging's effective fieldwork and his poor administrative habits 291.

His willingness to take risks is tempered by concern for containment. After discovering the golden swarm, he rejects returning directly to a populated harbor because even one surviving particle could spread the contamination 270.

Mingbo Oasis Commission

Ging contacts Bai Zhu as his employer and prevents him from abandoning the assignment by invoking Association fees and advance-payment rules. He then forcibly takes Bai Zhu to investigate the Mingbo Oasis anomaly with Satotz, Razor, List, Dwun, and Piyu 171 174.

Before the expedition meeting, Ging witnesses the Landlord's birds collecting Bai Zhu's unpaid rent. He encourages Bai Zhu to confront the obligation, shows him a photograph of the black One-Eyed Bird, and leads him through the Association's underground facilities to meet the investigation team 173.

At the oasis, Ging identifies black roots beneath the sand and concludes that the oasis is alive. He orders a retreat when it expands and refuses rescue attempts that would create further casualties 182.

Black Tower and Specialist Association Conflict

Inside the Black Tower, Ging studies the Specialist Association's teleportation system, identifies its reliance on markers and calibration, and develops a counterattack around disrupting those conditions 213. He interferes with Gait's teleportation at the critical instant, allowing Bai Zhu's White Lightning to break the enemy's formation 218 219.

During the earlier fighting, Ging and List identify the enemy's coordinated roles: mirror infiltration, shadow suppression, sniper pressure, teleportation-based withdrawal, and observation support. Ging also suspects concealed heavy artillery 201. He subsequently captures a severed portion of the shadow user's Nen construct and recognizes the captured infiltrator Skre, but cannot prevent Skre's escape through an activated Nen Mark 202.

After the battle, Ging prevents Bai Zhu from executing Hua Qiulang, arguing that the captured Hunters should be kept alive until the forces behind them—particularly Pariston—can be investigated 219.

When the Black Tower consumes Lakeheart Oasis, Ging senses Bai Zhu's energy vanish and return in a more refined state. He interprets the tower as a furnace for purification rather than merely a destructive structure 227.

Caspian Sea Investigation

Ging follows leads connecting Kakin to contaminated samples, Nen Beast embryo cultivation, and royal bloodline research 251. During a maritime investigation, he recognizes that the black sea entity is studying the group's abilities rather than simply trying to kill them 269.

He facilitates Bai Zhu's secret meeting with Netero on Gina Island, using successive spatial jumps to cross the ocean. During their discussions, he confirms the unusual properties of Bai Zhu's blood and participates in reviewing the connections among Ring Island, the oasis, the Caspian Sea ruins, and an insect egg recovered by the sea creature after Ging threw it overboard 246 248 249.

After escaping the sea entity, Ging tests the golden particles' response to Nen and removes those embedded in Gela Jiang's wound. He refuses to risk bringing the contamination to a populated harbor and seeks Association isolation facilities instead 270.

He later helps establish that the golden particles attached to himself, Milluki, and Gela Jiang record Nen activation patterns and may enable future enemies to imitate their techniques 271.

Under quarantine, Ging connects Kakin's experimental cultures, the Black Feather, and the Circulatory Blood Vault: the cultures may provide bodies for the sea entities, the vault may sustain them, and the feather may carry the particles into those bodies. The investigation confirms that his own Shock Blade and Concentrated Explosion Fist have already been recorded 271.

Battle Against Hecatos

Ging identifies a hidden maintenance passage beneath the Old Trench by analyzing Stone Gate data and inscriptions. He assigns Gela Jiang to control the water, Piyu to open the locks, and Milluki to manage equipment and communications outside the passage 291. When Hecatos begins emerging, Ging initially remains outside with Gela Jiang to seal waterways and prevent golden particles from entering the ruins 293.

Ging enters Hecatos's inner city through a maintenance route and saves Bai Zhu from a lethal Shadow Fist at the last moment 298 299. He becomes the frontline fighter while Bai Zhu analyzes the city's forty-eight-lock sealing system, using varied Nen routes to keep Hecatos from successfully copying him 299 300 301.

Even after suffering a corrosive shoulder injury, Ging continues drawing Hecatos away from Bai Zhu and later improvises an energy-transfer connection that restores Bai Zhu's Reiatsu for the final attack 301 306. After Hecatos is resealed, he joins Bai Zhu in planning the harbor's cleanup and containment work 307.

Between these interventions, Ging installs the final sealing ring and triggers the false routes embedded in the Black Crow Guanyin, buying time when escape appears to be the only option 302 303. Bai Zhu's Angel's Glance then restores Ging's damaged flesh and collarbone and expels the corrosive Nen. Ging resumes attacking Hecatos's vulnerable wing and moves aside when Bai Zhu's externally empowered output surpasses his own peak 304.

After the battle, Ging identifies Pariston's likely false-trail strategy when Bai Zhu discovers the surveillance detector. Rather than pursue the watcher, the pair leave through the maintenance passage. As Bai Zhu's borrowed power collapses and his equipment disappears, Ging physically supports him out of the ruins 308.
