The street had descended into chaos. Screams rose and fell alongside the sickening sound of chewing.
Bai Zhu left the mutated monsters to Hisoka. Grabbing Milluki by the back of his collar, he charged into a commercial street where people were still pouring out in flight.
"Get the uninfected civilians to that open space up ahead!" Bai Zhu shoved Milluki forward.
"How am I supposed to do that? They're scared out of their minds!" Milluki fumbled for his terminal. Hundreds of Mechanical Ants crawled down his trouser legs and spread rapidly across the ground.
A man with blood all over his face came sprinting toward them. Behind him was a monster that had just grown a third arm.
Bai Zhu raised his hand.
"Hadō #4, White Lightning."
A bolt of lightning pierced the monster's head. Rotten flesh splattered across the ground, hissing as it smoked.
The man's legs gave out, and he collapsed. Several civilians who had been running wildly nearby stopped too, staring stiffly at Bai Zhu.
Bai Zhu pulled the Hunter License he almost never used from his pocket.
"Hunter Association business. If you don't want to get eaten, get your asses to that square."
No one moved.
Bai Zhu stepped forward and slammed his sword hilt against a nearby lamppost. The lampshade crashed down and shattered across the ground.
"Do I need to say it again?"
The crowd finally reacted, scrambling toward the center of the square.
Milluki sent miniature drones circling overhead. Once he confirmed no hidden infected had slipped in with the crowd, he signaled to Bai Zhu.
"Everyone's there."
Bai Zhu stepped forward. Packed together like this, those hundreds of people would be a feast for the monsters. He couldn't let them scatter, and he couldn't let the monsters near them.
He stopped and
