Bai Zhu looked at the silver combination case.
"What's in the case?"
Camilla followed his gaze, and her face went deathly pale. She took half a step back, her heel striking a collapsed wooden cabinet with a dull thud.
Bai Zhu watched her reaction, then crouched with a faint smile and tapped the case's metal handle twice.
Clink, clink.
Camilla snatched the case and hugged it tight. Her carefully manicured nails dug into the grooves on its surface, veins bulging across the backs of her hands.
"Nothing!" Her throat tightened, betraying a trace of nerves. Her chest rose and fell sharply.
Bai Zhu glanced at the way she guarded the case and stood, dusting off his hands.
"Milluki."
"Huh?"
"Let's go. We have work to do."
Bai Zhu turned, kicked a broken plank out of his way, and headed for the clock shop's door.
Milluki hurried after him.
Camilla panicked.
She stared at Bai Zhu's back. He hadn't slowed down in the slightest. This wasn't a bluff.
She had no loyal guards left, and her Nen Beast was a useless ornament. Her ability had been so effective after she awakened Nen that she had never even practiced the basics. Once Bai Zhu left, she was as good as dead.
"Wait!"
She stumbled after him, stepped on broken glass, and twisted her ankle. She kicked off her designer heels and ran barefoot in front of Bai Zhu, spreading her arms to block his path.
Bai Zhu stopped. He lowered his eyes but said nothing.
Camilla clenched her molars and stared at the toes of his shoes.
"Inside... is a device." She swallowed. "A special container the Creation Society uses to forcibly retrieve the Final Experimental Subject."
Bai Zhu raised an eyebrow.
"Retrieve it?"
"They planned for the possibility of losing control
