Background

Enel arrived on Sky Island roughly a year before Ye Chen’s group and established himself as its arrogant “God,” ruling through four priests—Satori, Shura, Ohm, and Gedatsu. He used Mantra to sense the Blue Sea intruders and ordered the priests to capture them for judgment. 157

After his priests were defeated, Enel confronted Ye Chen personally. His assumption that his lightning body made him untouchable collapsed when Ye Chen struck him with Haki, neutralized his Mantra, and defeated his strongest lightning techniques. Enel submitted only after Ye Chen threatened him with death under overwhelming Conqueror’s Haki. 158 159 160 161

Ye Chen retained Enel as a valuable subordinate rather than killing him for the Rumble-Rumble Fruit. Over the following year, Enel trained his Devil Fruit and Haki, assisted Ye Chen’s Electrical Stimulation Method, and gradually abandoned open rebellion after repeated defeats demonstrated the gap between them. 162 163

His humiliation by Ye Chen does not remove his pride; instead, it changes its direction. Enel accepts Ye Chen’s dominance because it is backed by undeniable strength, but he remains determined to eventually surpass him. Despite his vanity, Enel is capable of adapting. He trains diligently, develops tactical counters to other Future Sight users, and recognizes when an enemy is beyond his current ability—as shown when Xi effortlessly defeated him and he called for Ye Chen. 322 344 562
