Background / History

Ye Chen was originally an introverted, immature teenager from another world. He was loud and sarcastic online but too shy to speak comfortably to strangers or girls in person. He suddenly transmigrated into the world of One Piece, awakening in a garbage dump in the Sabaody Archipelago as a poorly clothed child. 1 2

Soon afterward, Elwin's slave-catching group captured him and sold him to a small auction house for 10,000 Beli. Ye Chen was later branded as a slave, tortured for half a month, and auctioned as Slave Number 50 for 100,000 Beli to a cruel inn owner known as Madam President. Her repeated abuse destroyed his initial hope of returning home and transformed his fear into violent resolve. 3 4 5

After gaining and using the Bomb-Bomb Fruit, Ye Chen killed Madam President and escaped. He sought protection and training through the Marines, securing acceptance at a Sabaody outpost only after revealing his Devil Fruit ability.
