Akainu's combat strength was indeed terrifying. Perhaps, after the Marineford War and his life-and-death battle with Aokiji, he really would reach the level of the Four Emperors.
Rogge believed that, two years from now, Akainu truly would possess that kind of strength—the strength of one of the Four Emperors.
Right now, though, Akainu was in bad shape. Although his injuries had healed considerably over the past half month, his condition was nowhere near Rogge's, who had emerged from the Marineford War unscathed.
With Rogge and the other nine surrounding Akainu, the force he faced had already surpassed the Whitebeard Pirates' fighting strength. They were even fiercer: Rogge, Jerry, Taishan, Shot, and Pizarro took turns attacking at close range, while the others waited nearby for an opening to land a fatal blow.

Yet even surrounded, Akainu still found chances to strike. Seizing an opening, he kicked Taishan away and unleashed a massive surge of magma from his body, covering the ground and creating his own battlefield.
That forced Rogge and the others to retreat from their encirclement. With magma covering the ground beneath their feet, how were they supposed to approach him?
Bang!
Just then, a bullet descended from above and blasted a large hole through Akainu's shoulder. He looked up and saw Simon overhead.
It wasn't just Simon. The others had also drawn their rifles and aimed at Akainu, ready to provide supporting fire from above.
"It feels a little unfair, but he is an Admiral, after all. Better to gang up on him," Ares said.
He didn't dare reveal his Devil Fruit ability yet. Few people knew about the Venom-Venom Fruit. The prisoners knew,
