Background / History

Childhood and Military Service

Abandoned by his mother, Bullet survived because Lord Hade took him in. He entered warfare at a very young age and accumulated military achievements, developing exceptional physical power without formal combat instruction 23 24 25.

Despite his battlefield success, Bullet remained a frontline captain. Georgia Mota argued that Hade feared his growing strength and deliberately prevented him from gaining command of the army. Bullet recognized signs of exploitation but rejected Mota’s recruitment offer out of gratitude toward the man who had saved him 24 25.

The Future Xia Luo Intended to Change

Xia Luo’s recollection describes a different course for Bullet: betrayal and the destruction of his country at fifteen, membership in the Roger Pirates, a reported draw with Rayleigh, departure at eighteen, and defeat by Garp and Sengoku followed by imprisonment in Impel Down at twenty-two. These are the future events Xia Luo seeks to alter, not established events in Bullet’s current storyline 23.

Xia Luo arrives three years before Bullet’s expected recruitment by Roger, specifically intending to prevent him from eating the Fusion Fruit. He considers a physically oriented Zoan a better match for Bullet’s talent, although he suspects the reported draw with Rayleigh involved Rayleigh holding back 23.

Betrayal and Recruitment

Hade sends Bullet to collect weapons from Vissel Port, promising promotion and even succession to his position. In reality, he arranges an assassination with the enemy. Bullet’s companions poison him on the return journey, reducing him to roughly thirty percent of his normal strength before Mota’s group surrounds him 26.

Initially unwilling to suspect Hade, Bullet realizes the likely truth during Mota’s taunts. His rage and determination to survive awaken Conqueror’s Haki, but the poison leaves him unable to overcome the ambush. Xia Luo intervenes, defeats the attackers, and supplies an antidote 27 28.

Bullet accepts recruitment on one condition: Xia Luo must defeat him decisively. After being repeatedly overwhelmed by Xia Luo in human form, he calls him “Boss” and asks to learn his techniques. He then kills Mota and the traitors, refusing their excuses and pleas 28.

A recorded Den Den Mushi conversation confirms Hade’s responsibility. Xia Luo carries Bullet back to the military camp, destroys Hade’s villa, and leaves Bullet to confront his adoptive father. Bullet returns subdued after roughly half an hour; Hade’s final fate is not disclosed. They leave without attempting to end the country’s civil war 29.

Training and Sky Island Service

Bullet initially chooses to follow Xia Luo as a prospective Marine personal guard rather than establish an independent organization. He prefers training and fighting to the burden of managing a faction 29.

After choosing the Tyrannosaurus Fruit, he begins learning the Six Powers. His first Beast Form transformation accidentally sinks their ship, and his renewed challenge to Xia Luo ends with a single Thunder Bagua. Xia Luo starts his instruction with Tekkai to improve his survival ability 30.

On Jaya, Bullet follows orders to release people forced into piracy by poverty, giving them their ship and money. Their gratitude surprises him, and he discovers that helping others can feel as satisfying as fighting. Soon afterward, he defeats and kills the seventy-million-Beli pirate Heinrich Böll, earning a fearsome local reputation 31 32 33 35.

Xia Luo later leaves him on Sky Island to oversee defense and train troops alongside Gan Fall’s civil administration. Gan Fall is also instructed to make the illiterate Bullet study. When Xia Luo returns after nine months, he praises their work settling residents, reducing divisions between races, and improving living conditions 40 87.

Formation of the Devil Pirates

After further training and repeated sparring with Abel, Bullet chooses to accompany him into the wider world rather than enter the Marines. With Xia Luo’s approval, he establishes the Devil Pirates, names Abel his first mate, and promises not to recruit scum 139.

The pair clear Jaya of pirates, obtain a navigator, and begin searching the first half of the Grand Line and the Four Blues for reliable companions instead of immediately entering the New World. Over two years, the crew develops into a nine-member group with a full range of essential shipboard roles; Hayes subsequently becomes its tenth member 147 149 150 152.

At Sabaody, the Devil Pirates attack Saint Frost, intending to make the Celestial Dragon experience slavery. Frost survives Borsalino’s intervention but is left permanently crippled and severely mentally damaged. Sakazuki and Borsalino fail to capture the crew, prompting a major intelligence review and increased bounties 149 150.

New World Entrance Confrontation

Before the Abyss Devil leaves Fish-Man Island, Xia Luo warns Bullet of an ambush involving three Marine Logia users and World Government reinforcements. He also cautions him about Kaido and postpones Bullet’s desired challenge to Whitebeard until his bounty exceeds one billion Beli 155.

Bullet rejects recruitment by Whitebeard, Big Mom, and the Flying Pirates. When the latter two factions attack, he assigns the airborne Ulter to Abel and personally fights Katakuri. Katakuri ultimately withdraws after recognizing that he cannot defeat Bullet 156 157.

Bullet also rejects Kaido, shields his crew from Kaido’s pressure, and clashes with him through Conqueror’s Haki. As the Marines and CP0 intervene, Hayes evacuates the remaining crew while Bullet and Abel divide the enemy fighters between them 157 158.

Bullet engages Rhino and Sound Man for hours without a decisive result. After Kaido withdraws, Sound Man requests Marine assistance, and Sakazuki launches Great Eruption at Bullet. The confrontation remains unresolved in the provided account 160.

Appearance

  • Human form: At twelve, Bullet is a blond, youthful-faced boy nearly two meters tall, with a heavily muscled body. He remains notably tall and muscular as captain of the Devil Pirates 24 155.
  • Human-Beast Form: Approximately five meters tall when first shown. His upper body retains a human shape, while his legs become Tyrannosaurus-like; he gains a tail, clawed hands, bluish-green skin, and a thick protective keratin layer 32.
  • Beast Form: Initially measures nearly sixteen meters long and approximately seven meters high—large enough to destroy a ship accidentally 30 32.

Personality

Bullet respects demonstrated strength more than promises or status. Even after Xia Luo saves his life, he insists on being defeated before submitting wholeheartedly. Once that condition is fulfilled, he becomes an obedient and eager student, retaining his allegiance even after establishing his own pirate crew 28 139 156 157.

Betrayal is particularly intolerable to him. His early gratitude toward Hade overrides his suspicions, but the assassination attempt produces profound hatred and lasting distrust. He refuses to excuse the companions who poisoned him, even when they blame orders or coercion 25 26 27 28.

He is aggressive, boastful, and intensely battle-hungry. He prolongs his fight with Heinrich because he enjoys it, wants strong sparring partners, and considers challenging Whitebeard despite the obvious danger. His confidence also makes him underestimate Abel during their first duel 32 33 87 155.

His violent upbringing does not eliminate his capacity for change. Although he denies being a good person, helping impoverished former pirates gives him genuine satisfaction. He also displays childlike curiosity about unfamiliar places and concepts, asking Xia Luo questions that reflect his lack of schooling 31 35.

As captain, Bullet shows practical judgment absent from his earlier reluctance to manage a faction. He recruits reliable companions, assigns opponents according to his fighters’ abilities, and prioritizes protecting the ship and evacuating vulnerable crewmates during the New World confrontation 149 150 156 157.

Abilities & Skills

Natural Physique and Close-Quarters Combat

  • Overwhelms ordinary soldiers barehanded before obtaining a Devil Fruit; flintlock fire causes little damage, and he can evade artillery shells 24.
  • Favors punches, grappling, and repeated ground slams, using superior strength to control opponents 32 160.
  • Combines exceptional natural recovery with Ancient Zoan regeneration, allowing him to outlast ordinary Zoan users 33.
  • Maintains enough stamina to fight Abel for an entire day and later battle two CP0 agents for hours 88 160.

Tyrannosaurus Fruit

  • Provides substantial increases in strength, durability, vitality, and recovery 30 33.
  • Human-Beast Form adds claws, a tail, and thick defensive skin while preserving his humanoid upper body 32.
  • Beast Form supplies enough mass and impact to force Heinrich out of an underground escape tunnel and damage his internal organs 33.
  • Grants no elemental powers or natural flight; aerial movement instead depends on techniques such as Geppo 24 32 87.
  • Immersion remains dangerous: his oversized transformation nearly drowns him, and exposure to the White Sea temporarily renders him helpless 30 35.

Six Powers

  • Tekkai: Hardens his body sufficiently to block Xia Luo’s spiked club during training 30.
  • Soru and Geppo: Provide rapid movement and aerial mobility, demonstrated during his duel with Abel 87.
  • Rankyaku: Wind Blade: Uses his Tyrannosaurus tail to launch cutting attacks, adapting the technique to his transformed anatomy 87.
  • Masters all six techniques through persistent training while stationed on Sky Island 87 88.

Haki

  • Conqueror’s Haki: Incapacitates weaker opponents in groups and contests Kaido’s intimidating aura. Despite improvement under Xia Luo, it is not yet strong enough for Conqueror’s Coating 32 157.
  • Armament Haki: Reaches proficiency and later develops Emission, allowing him to deflect Sound Man’s Sonic Cannon with invisible projected armor 139 160.
  • Observation Haki: Identifies Abel despite darkness and an unfamiliar transformed appearance 139.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Abyss Devil — The Devil Pirates’ submarine, built over three months in Water 7 for nearly one billion Beli. Constructed with high-quality Adam Wood and coated for deep-sea travel, it withstands conditions ten thousand meters beneath the surface. It measures sixty-two meters long, sixteen meters wide, and thirty-eight meters tall 155.
