Background

Qin Mobei is the elder son kept by Mr. Qin after the Qin family’s collapse following Mrs. Qin’s affair with Bai Jinxiao. His younger maternal half-brother, Li Zhikong, was instead sent to their maternal grandparents; the brothers share a mother but have different fathers. 2 25

He initially despised Li as an illegitimate child and a symbol of the Qin Family’s humiliation, treating him coldly during visits to their grandparents. Li’s exceptional beauty, cheerful manner, and talent for acting spoiled gradually overcame that prejudice. Qin became deeply attached to him and embraced the role of an indulgent older brother. 3

Qin rushes from work when Li collapses during the college entrance exams. He checks Li’s condition, insists on a complete examination before discharge, and accepts blame for a fabricated vacation story so their elderly grandparents will not learn about the hospitalization. 3 4

At the resort, Qin repeatedly clarifies that Li is his brother when acquaintances assume they are a couple. He becomes increasingly alarmed by the attention Li receives and escorts him back from the hot springs when Li appears intoxicated and vulnerable. 4 5 8 9

Unwitting Accomplice in Li’s Escape

After Li’s encounter with Lu Yuan, Qin unknowingly helps him leave the resort before Lu can retaliate. Li urges him to depart quickly, and the brothers check out and drive away together. 20

Lu’s subsequent investigation initially identifies Qin as the person who booked Room 302, leading Lu and his friends to suspect a connection between Qin and the mysterious “Little Bunny.” The resort manager later clarifies that Qin booked the room but did not stay in it. 21

Business Crisis and Separation from Li

During a planned seaside vacation, Qin receives an urgent call that several companies have unexpectedly begun causing trouble for his business. He cancels the trip, personally returns to handle the crisis, and drops Li at home before rushing to the company. Lu Yuan captures Li immediately afterward. 23

Delayed Overseas Reunion

Bai Jinxiao arranges for Li to travel to the United States before Qin, claiming that Qin will be delayed. Qin experiences an unexplained sense of foreboding after resolving the business troubles. 49
