Background and History

The Azure Mist Sect was once among the Dao Alliance’s founding sects. Its mountain-protecting formation was built roughly two thousand years earlier to repel demons and monsters, though neglect and an insufficient supply of spirit mines later reduced it from Fusion Realm grade to Spirit Severing tier 16 17.

After a Nascent Soul sect master emerged three centuries ago, the sect rapidly recruited disciples and rose again. By Jiang Chen’s era, however, it had declined into a third-rate sect despite retaining a valuable Flame Vein, a broad disciple base, and several concealed powerhouses 5 15.

The sect’s apparent stability concealed extensive infiltration. Liu Ruyan, publicly an inner-sect disciple of Tranquil Heart Peak, used the fire at Sunset Glow Peak as cover to investigate the sect formation and transmit the location of its life gate to the Demon Sect 1. Her capture did not resolve the threat: she warned Jiang Chen that multiple Demon Sect spies remained within the sect 2.

Sect Structure

• Outer sect — Includes servant disciples such as Jiang Chen before his Qi Refining breakthrough. Stubborn Stone Peak houses such low-ranking disciples and is overseen by Steward Chen Ping 1 5.
• Inner sect — Qi Refining cultivators may transfer into the inner sect, receive disciple robes, a spirit sword, and a Storage Ring, and live in shared disciple quarters rather than private cave abodes 5 6.
• Discipline Hall — The sect’s disciplinary and reporting authority. Deacon Han Yan accepted Jiang Chen’s report of Liu Ruyan, then called for Elder Zhong Fuzi after Sunset Glow Peak caught fire 1 2.
• Myriad Laws Peak — Contains the Scripture Pavilion and its forbidden underground archives, where the Form-Returning Book was concealed among ancient texts 7.
• Tranquil Heart Peak — An inner-sect peak where Liu Ruyan maintained a cave abode. Chen Gongxing served there as a teaching deacon 5 6.

Grounds and Resources

• Flame Vein — The sect’s major industrial resource, used to forge low-grade spirit swords and magical artifacts for sale across Xihe Prefecture 5.
• Sunset Glow Peak — Site of the Flame Vein fire deliberately set by Liu Ruyan during her espionage operation 1.
• Orchid Mound Peak — The reported location of the mountain-protecting formation’s life gate, a weakness that could be exploited from outside the sect 1.
• Mount Lanling — The reported location of the formation core discovered through Liu Ruyan’s demonic-qi tracking 4.
• Scripture Pavilion — Stores sealed and incomplete ancient texts that cannot be preserved in jade slips or Storage Rings; its underground archives became the center of the search for the so-called Demi-Immortal’s Book 7.

Defensive Formation

The mountain-protecting formation is the sect’s principal defense. Its life gate functions as an internal escape route but becomes a critical vulnerability if exposed to enemies 1.

• Tian Mingye pierced the formation directly above its sealed core with the Violet Star Demon Sword and entered the sect through the breach 16.
• Reverend Guiqi later used the neglected formation as the basis for a Second-Stage Return-Form Formation, temporarily stripping Tian Mingye’s demonic power and converting it into purified spiritual energy 17.
• The formation survived the conflict but required repairs afterward 29.

Known Personnel and Infiltrators

• Luo Qingzhou — Sect Master; an Early Nascent Soul cultivator who led the sect’s defense against Tian Mingye 16.
• Chen Gongxing — Tranquil Heart Peak’s teaching deacon and steward. He was secretly a Spirit Severing Realm cultivator and Liyue agent who had observed the sect for a century under the guise of a farmer 6 17.
• Han Yan — Foundation Establishment Peak deacon of the Discipline Hall, known for impartiality 1.

Major Incidents

Setting Fire to the Mountain

Liu Ruyan ignited Sunset Glow Peak’s Flame Vein, hid herself with illusion arts, and used the chaos to trace the sect formation’s life gate. The inner-sect elders extinguished the blaze but initially dismissed it as an accident, allowing the infiltration to remain hidden 1.

Search for the Demi-Immortal’s Book

Demons and demon beasts infiltrated the forbidden archives beneath Myriad Laws Peak in search of a legendary immortal method. The supposed Demi-Immortal’s Book was actually the Form-Returning Book, a technique created by the former First Elder of Myriad Laws that can alter a cultivator’s innate nature and, in suitable users, create an Abyss qi sea capable of refining demonic power 7.

Heavenly Demon Sect Assault

Tian Mingye attacked the sect to recover Heavenly Demon Sect Elder Qu Yang and investigate the rumored Demi-Immortal’s Book. She breached the mountain-protecting formation, defeated Luo Qingzhou and the assembled sect forces, and split Myriad Laws Peak—including Guiqi’s underground library—with a single sword strike 16.

The battle exposed the sect’s hidden factions and protectors. Guiqi trapped Tian Mingye with a Return-Form Formation, Chen Gongxing intervened as a Liyue agent, and Liu Ruyan’s illusions deceived even Spirit Severing Realm cultivators 17 18. The sect ultimately survived, but its formation was damaged and its internal investigation intensified 29.
