A Martial Soul is the core manifestation through which a Soul Master cultivates, channels Soul Power, and develops combat abilities. Martial Souls and Soul Masters are described as two sides of the same whole; ordinarily, a damaged Martial Soul prevents its owner from cultivating through meditation normally. 216 285

A Martial Soul’s innate quality influences its owner’s starting potential, combat role, and compatible Soul Skills, but the narrative repeatedly treats quality as mutable through training, evolution, bloodlines, Soul Rings, and personal comprehension. 13 241

Awakening and assessment

Martial Souls awaken in childhood alongside a measure of Innate Soul Power. Spirit Hall’s talent rankings score both the Martial Soul and Innate Soul Power on a one-hundred-point scale, then combine the results for placement. 18

• Xu Huxiao’s publicly revealed mutated Twin Arms Martial Soul scored 68, while his Innate Full Soul Power scored 100. 18

Martial Soul Possession

Martial Soul Possession manifests a Martial Soul’s traits directly through its owner’s body or equipment.

• Body-type possession can alter the user’s physique, limbs, senses, strength, or defenses. Xu Huxiao’s Platinum Dragon-Patterned Arms turn metallic and dragon-patterned, while Hulk possession transforms him into a giant green combat form. 16 141
• Weapon-type possession manifests or enhances a weapon, such as Xie Yue’s Moon Blades or Xiao Ji’s Dragon Soul War Halberd. 34
• Possession commonly accompanies visible Soul Rings and provides the foundation for activating Soul Skills. 16 34

Soul Rings and Soul Skills

Soul Rings are absorbed from Soul Beasts and grant Soul Skills aligned with the Martial Soul’s nature or the absorbed beast’s abilities.

• Xu Huxiao’s first ring came from the 860-year Black-Patterned Dread Lizard and granted Multiplication: Gluttonous Grip, enlarging his arms while tripling their strength and defense. 16

Martial Souls can develop beyond their awakened state through Soul Rings, bloodlines, cultivation, and rare breakthroughs.

Xu Huxiao’s Twin Arms Martial Soul originated from the Eighteen Dragon Subduing Palms’ Martial Dao Intent. Its growth is directly tied to his Martial Dao realm: it began as Platinum Dragon-Patterned Twin Arms and evolved into the Four Extremes Golden Dragon Claw, extending from his arms to include his legs. 1 20 241

Martial Soul Heart

The Martial Soul Heart is presented as a rare state of deep comprehension and unity between a Soul Master, their Martial Soul, and their Soul Power. Bibi Dong suspects Xu Huxiao begins awakening one while he resists the Angel Ascension Stairway’s suppression. 108

Xu Huxiao’s case is unusual because his Twin Arms Martial Soul was born from his prior mastery of Martial Dao. His resulting understanding allows him to treat Soul Ring Skills and Self-Created Soul Skills as parts of the same combat system. 108 110

Twin Martial Souls

Twin Martial Souls are regarded as an extremely rare talent. Xu Bayan calls them a legendary occurrence and warns that their cultivation can create severe internal conflicts. 19

• Adding Soul Rings to a second Martial Soul too early may cause Martial Soul conflict or make the user’s body unable to withstand the added power. 19

Martial Soul theory and history

The Stone Emperor origin story credits Spirit Hall’s legendary founder—who allegedly rose from a pebble Martial Soul to become Blue Star Douluo—with inspiring generations of Soul Masters. 13

Later academic accounts instead identify Master Yu Xiaogang as the major theorist who challenged the belief that innate compatibility alone determines Martial Soul Fusion.
