Background / History
Qifeng begins as a thirteen-year-old Konoha Genin with poor natural talent, relying on a corpse-looting system and enhancement cards to build the strength he lacks through ordinary training. His initial attributes are Fire affinity and a Body score of 12, which he immediately improves with a Boost Card. 2
Working around Konoha's morgue, he develops a personal principle of treating corpses respectfully and attempting to fulfill the deceased's wishes when possible. At the same time, he regards their remains as the source of the cards, techniques, bloodlines, and items that let him survive. 8
His first major use of an Experience Card comes when Iwa spy Kashi pursues him for a corpse. Drawing on Miura Ikkō's experience, Qifeng briefly reaches Special Jonin-level combat ability and kills Kashi before Konoha's Anbu arrive. The experience leaves permanent gains in physique, energy, and ninjutsu after Qifeng deliberately studies during the card's active period. 6 7
During the war, Qifeng increasingly supplements his own strength with bloodlines, Human Puppets, Experience Cards, and captured techniques. He obtains Shikotsumyaku from Kaguya Senjin's corpse, develops the Sharingan and Scorch Release, and eventually uses the corpses of powerful shinobi—including Pakura, Sasori, and the Third Kazekage—for puppetry and combat preparations. 16 72 76 96 112
He later reveals himself as Maruyama Qifeng while answering Namikaze Minato's request to protect Konoha and Minato's family during Obito's Nine-Tails assault. After absorbing the Nine-Tails and defeating Obito, Qifeng becomes one of Konoha's most formidable protectors. 210 211
Personality
Qifeng is cautious, pragmatic, and deeply concerned with survival. He prefers steady development, avoiding recognition that could force him onto dangerous missions before he is ready. 7
Despite his low-key ambitions, he is highly opportunistic and willing to manipulate perceptions, exploit loopholes, and use corpses for power. He tricks Might Guy into cleaning the morgue, leverages Konoha loyalty for Experience Card compatibility, and later impersonates Sarutobi Hiruzen through a puppet identity. 18 48 112
He can be compassionate toward allies and wounded Konoha ninja, but his respect for the dead is selective. As his power and research deepen, he becomes increasingly willing to compromise his earlier principles in pursuit of survival and stronger Human Puppets. 51 72 96 177
