Organization and Leadership

Shrek’s inner academy is based on Sea God Island in Sea God Lake, while Sea God’s Pavilion serves as its highest leadership body. The academy’s graduates and elders form a major source of Soul Master influence throughout the Douluo Three Kingdoms. 88 104

Inner Court graduates who remain at Shrek can become teachers, while those who advance to Super Douluo may enter Sea God’s Pavilion as elders. This makes the academy’s cultivation of promising students essential to replenishing its leadership and defensive strength. 88

Internal Leadership Strain

Mu En identifies Xuan Zi as Shrek’s strongest combatant apart from himself and its last major defensive barrier. Despite Xuan Zi’s repeated failures, Mu En urges Yan Shaozhe to forgive him rather than weaken the academy through internal resentment. Mu En’s own approaching death makes maintaining unity and preparing successors increasingly urgent. 89

Yan Shaozhe does not genuinely relinquish his hatred toward Xuan Zi or Lu Yuan. His grief over Ma Xiaotao and Shrek’s lost generations produces Abyssal corruption within his Light Phoenix, turning several golden feathers blackish-purple before the later public scandal exposes the change. This corruption is distinct from proof of the newspaper allegations that he deliberately infiltrated Shrek as an Evil Soul Master agent. 89 105 107

History

Conflict with Lu Yuan

A Shrek deacon first encountered Lu Yuan during a Martial Soul awakening in Ox-Horse Village. The deacon judged Lu Yuan’s black-and-red dragon-like Martial Soul to be evil on appearance alone, declared him an “Evil Soul Master,” and attempted to take him to Shrek for punishment. Lu Yuan fought back, injured the deacon, and escaped into the Star Dou Forest. 1 2

After receiving the deacon’s report, Du Weilun and Yan Shaozhe concluded that Lu Yuan might possess Innate Full Soul Power and possibly Twin Martial Souls. Yan ordered that Lu Yuan be brought to Shrek by any means necessary, with the option of branding him an Evil Soul Master if he resisted strongly enough to avoid capture. 10

Du Weilun dispatched one Soul King and ten Soul Elders to seize Lu Yuan in the forest. The entire search party was ambushed and killed by Lord Bear and young Darkgolden Terrorclaw Bears, following a strategy devised by Lu Yuan. 12

Shrek’s later wanted notice offered a reward of 500,000 Gold Soul Coins for Lu Yuan. The notice circulated beyond the academy’s immediate vicinity, including reaching Earth Dragon Gate. 97

Continental Soul Dueling Tournament

Shrek entered the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Soul Dueling Tournament with an unusually young team that included Huo Yuhao, Wang Dong, Bei Bei, Xu Sanshi, Jiang Nannan, He Caitou, and Ning Tian. Huo Yuhao’s simulated six Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Rings immediately secured Shrek’s opening victory over Tianling Academy through intimidation. 46

During the tournament, Wang Yan sought Soul Tools and cultivation resources for the team at Starlight Auction Hall. Lu Yuan interfered with his bidding for a Level-Four Milk Bottle through repeated minimum-price increases and later competed with Shrek for an Ice Jade Scorpion Left Arm Soul Bone. 48 51

Before the final, Xuan Zi instructed Cheng Gang to investigate Lu Yuan’s origins and whether he might be a transformed Soul Beast. Xuan Zi also recalled an earlier Star Dou Forest disaster in which his negligence had left eleven of twelve Shrek students dead and the survivor, Zhang Lexuan, seriously injured. 59

Shrek’s final against the Sun Moon Imperial Soul Engineering Academy became the academy’s most severe public defeat in ten thousand years. Its strategy relied on exhausting Lu Yuan during the team battle, then using stronger Soul Emperors in the individual round; Lu Yuan instead deployed the Little Snow Empress, an autonomous humanoid Martial Soul that overwhelmed the entire Shrek lineup. 64 65

Xuan Zi himself ordered Huo Yuhao to provide the prohibited outside assistance during the team battle. Xu Jiawei initially framed the interference as an accidental leakage of Soul Power to preserve Star Luo’s relationship with Shrek; Lu Yuan’s public objection led to the additional military punishment administered by Dai Hao. 65 67

In the additional battle formation, Bei Bei and Ling Luocheng faced the Hongchen siblings, whose coordinated Soul Tool bombardment and ice poison overwhelmed their defenses. Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong later used their Goddess of Light fusion as Shrek’s final hope, but Lu Yuan destroyed it with “One Flame Opens the Half-Walled City.” Xuan Zi intervened to protect the two students and was slightly injured while containing the attack. 72 74

Xuan Zi attempted to defend Shrek’s legitimacy before the crowd and later sought to classify Lu Yuan as an Evil Soul Master for allegedly using excessive force. Lu Yuan publicly challenged the accusation, arguing that dangerous power was not proof of evil and comparing his treatment with Shrek’s tolerance of Ma Xiaotao’s Evil Fire Phoenix. Huang Jinxu ultimately enforced the tournament rules and confirmed Sun Moon’s victory. 71 75

Ma Xiaotao Incident

Following the tournament loss, Ma Xiaotao lost control of her Evil Fire Phoenix power amid anger, humiliation, and Abyssal influence. Her flames turned black, and she attacked fellow Shrek members and spectators indiscriminately, causing the public to question whether Shrek had harbored an Evil Soul Master. 76

Ma Xiaotao was later fatally wounded during the arena chaos. Xuan Zi blamed Lu Yuan for her death and sought revenge, while Lu Yuan used the bodies of two Holy Spirit Cult members to persuade spectators that Shrek had sheltered Evil Soul Masters. 78

Sea God’s Pavilion decided to protect Shrek’s public image by issuing a narrative that Lu Yuan had secretly harmed Ma Xiaotao during the tournament. The academy placed Lu Yuan on its wanted list, preferably to be captured alive so Shrek could investigate his extraordinary soul rings. 85

Lu Yuan subsequently used memories preserved in the Earth Veins to create an Abyss-distorted manifestation of Ma Xiaotao, rather than genuinely resurrecting her. He ordered it to attack Soul Masters near Star Dou Forest while claiming to act for Shrek, but to claim Holy Spirit Cult responsibility when encountering Shrek members. 92

Sightings of this manifestation intensified the academy’s public crisis because Shrek had already announced Ma Xiaotao’s death and held a memorial. Witnesses interpreted her apparent return and blackish-purple aura as evidence that the academy used Evil Soul Master techniques. The manifestation also served Lu Yuan as an informant monitoring routes from Shrek into the forest. 106 107 111

Auspicious Beast Deception

After Huo Yuhao advanced to Soul Elder, Mu En assigned Yan Shaozhe to escort him into Star Dou Forest to obtain his third Soul Ring. Mu En refused Wang Dong’s request to accompany them because the forest had become increasingly dangerous. The manifested Ma Xiaotao reported their departure to Lu Yuan. 111

Lu Yuan, Di Tian, and Myriad Demon King prepared a Golden Hawksbill Turtle as bait, with Myriad Demon King’s illusion causing Huo Yuhao and Yan Shaozhe to perceive it as the Imperial Auspicious Beast. The turtle was instructed to pretend that Huo Yuhao’s Attribute Guidance succeeded. Yan Shaozhe welcomed the apparent discovery as a reversal of his recent misfortune, unaware that the encounter had been arranged against them. 109 111

Later Soul Master Tournament in Mingdu

Shrek registered fourteen competitors for the later tournament, which also permitted sect participation. Bei Bei led the arriving group, accompanied by Wang Yan. 114 159

At registration, Xu Sanshi, Huo Yuhao, and Wang Dong’er challenged the organizers’ decision to give the Abyss Cult’s three-person team top-floor suites. The receptionist upheld the committee’s decision, while Lu Yuan mocked Shrek’s claim to remain the continent’s foremost academy. Shrek itself received second-class rooms on the sixth floor because it had finished second in the previous tournament, prompting further complaints. 159 160

Wang Chun’er recognized Lu Yuan and Bi Ji, reminding the others of their previous conflict. Huo Yuhao’s anger over Ma Xiaotao’s death resurfaced, while Wang Yan worried about having to face Lu Yuan’s group again. 160

After watching the Abyss Cult’s early matches, Ning Tian questioned whether Shrek could realistically defeat Xiao Xiao, a Soul Sage with seven black rings; Gu Qiu’er, a Soul Sage with six black rings and one red ring; and Lu Yuan, whose current strength remained unknown to Shrek’s team. Bei Bei, Xu Sanshi, and Huo Yuhao emphasized the academy’s legacy and the responsibility of the Shrek Seven Monsters. Wang Chun’er defended Ning Tian’s concerns and pressed the others to explain how they could overcome the actual disparity. 166

The team ultimately placed its hopes in cooperation, Huo Yuhao’s faith in the Sea God, and He Caitou’s high-grade Soul Cannons and support Soul Tools. Alongside preparing for its tournament match, it planned to acquire rare metals in Mingdu, including through participation in an underground Soul Tool competition. 166

Rebuilding Efforts

Shrek’s loss was worsened by a shortage of successors: two generations of promising Shrek Seven Monsters had already been lost, leaving the academy with a projected gap in high-level combat power. The remaining tournament participants were therefore treated as Shrek’s essential future. 88

Sea God’s Pavilion granted Huo Yuhao, Wang Dong, Bei Bei, Xu Sanshi, He Caitou, Jiang Nannan, and Ning Tian immediate entry into the inner academy, recognized them as the new generation of Shrek Seven Monsters, and awarded each a Soul Bone suited to their attributes. Huo Yuhao, Wang Dong, and Bei Bei also received three months of cultivation in the Ancient Golden Tree. 88

Even with this investment, the academy expected a vulnerable interval of more than a decade before the new generation could replace its lost high-level personnel. The Ancient Golden Tree, containing life essence and the essence of heaven and earth, represented Shrek’s highest-level cultivation resource. 88

When Huo Yuhao, Wang Dong, and Bei Bei emerged from seclusion, all three expressed their intention to develop the Tang Sect. Mu En recognized Huo Yuhao’s breakthrough to Soul Elder and accepted him and Wang Dong as direct disciples, further formalizing their importance to Shrek’s future. 111

Recruitment of Wang Chun’er

Wang Chun’er applied during Shrek’s admissions period while secretly acting as a spy under Lu Yuan and Di Tian’s orders. Her true identity was a Hundred-Thousand-Year Golden Hawksbill Turtle associated with auspicious fortune. 118

Although her stated age of fourteen exceeded the academy’s normal admission limit of twelve, her Level 57 Soul King cultivation persuaded Zhang Lexuan to grant an exception. She displayed the Radiant Hawksbill Butterfly Martial Soul and five rings colored yellow, yellow, purple, purple, and black. Zhang Lexuan noticed that her recommendation letter was two years old and addressed to “Liu Ruyan,” but overlooked the inconsistency because Shrek urgently needed exceptional talent. 118

Cai Mei’er valued Chun’er as a potential asset for the next Soul Master Tournament and expedited her admission after a simplified Inner Court assessment. Zhang Lexuan then assigned her to accompany Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong on a mission. Following Lu Yuan’s instructions, Chun’er claimed to have joined Shrek out of admiration for Huo Yuhao, provoking Wang Dong’s jealousy. 119

Yan Shaozhe later sought to encourage a relationship between Chun’er and Huo Yuhao, believing that pairing the talented newcomer with a promising core disciple would secure her loyalty and strengthen academy cohesion. He considered Wang Dong’s attachment less certain because of her backing from Haotian Fortress. His assessment did not account for Chun’er’s actual infiltration mission. 118 132

Public Controversy

Lu Yuan later retaliated against Shrek’s wanted notice through a media campaign credited to the Abyss Cult. He sold newspaper editors allegations that Yan Shaozhe and Xuan Zi were Evil Soul Master agents embedded within Shrek’s leadership; the claims were presented without independently verified proof. 104 105

The reports triggered widespread panic in Shrek City and distrust among Shrek students. Rumors expanded beyond the original accusations, with some claiming that Sea God’s Pavilion had been infiltrated or that Shrek’s inner courtyard was an Evil Soul Master training ground. 106

Yan Shaozhe publicly denied every allegation and displayed his Light Phoenix Martial Soul as evidence of his innocence. However, observers noticed blackish-purple feathers within the phoenix’s tail, and his anger caused Abyssal aura to visibly spread through the Martial Soul, reviving public suspicion. 107

Emergency Council and Suspension

Mu En convened an emergency Sea God’s Pavilion meeting after Yan Shaozhe’s failed public demonstration. Song Lao proposed suppressing the newspapers, while Lin Lao and Zhuang Lao argued that censorship alone could not repair Shrek’s reputation. Xian Lin’er emphasized that the allegations contained detailed historical information that could not simply be dismissed as uninformed gossip. 108

At Mu En’s request, Yan Shaozhe manifested the Light Phoenix before the council. Its blackish-purple feathers shocked the elders and weakened even Mu En’s confidence, though the altered Martial Soul did not independently establish the alleged conspiracy or lineage claims. 108

Mu En temporarily suspended Yan Shaozhe from his deanship while retaining him as a Pavilion elder. Shrek publicly presented the measure as an investigation intended to calm criticism. Lin Lao received orders to suppress unfavorable reports and investigate their origins; although the elders suspected the Abyss Cult and Lu Yuan, Mu En insisted on investigation before judgment. 109

Suppression of the Press

Over the following two months, Sea God’s Pavilion mobilized Shrek’s influence across multiple industries and shut down dozens of newspapers and publishing houses. Smaller publications nevertheless continued spreading the allegations, often in more sensational forms. 111

Shrek pressured the three empires to control public opinion. Their governments agreed outwardly but largely turned a blind eye, preventing the academy from effectively containing the scandal through its usual political influence. 111

Shrek first labeled him an Evil Soul Master during his awakening, later pursued him, placed him on a wanted list, and became the target of his political and media retaliation.
