Just then, Hermione's match successfully transformed. She excitedly raised her hand. "Professor! I did it!"
Professor McGonagall strode over, picked up Hermione's silver needle, and examined it carefully. She nodded in satisfaction. "A very standard transformation, Miss Granger. Two points to Gryffindor."
Hermione proudly straightened her back and looked at Vera with sparkling eyes. "I did it too."
"Yes, very impressive." Vera returned a faint smile, privately marveling at Hermione's truly astonishing aptitude for learning.
She herself had only achieved such results with the assistance of her Magic Circuit, directly analyzing Professor McGonagall's flow of magic and replicating it exactly. Hermione had relied entirely on her own ability.
As she was reflecting on this, Professor McGonagall swept her gaze across the classroom before finally settling on her. Her eyes narrowed slightly, as though assessing something.
Vera lowered her eyes without betraying anything, pretending to focus on the silver needle in her hands.
Only after Professor McGonagall's gaze moved past her did she tilt her head and quietly let out a breath of relief.
When the dismissal bell rang, only Vera and Hermione had succeeded completely. Most of the others were still utterly lost. Harry's match had finally taken on the shape of a needle before class ended, though it still retained the grain of wood. Still, that was no small improvement.
Before leaving, Professor McGonagall assigned homework—a paper on the basic principles of Transfiguration, due next Monday.
As the students left the classroom in twos and threes, Harry carefully tucked her half-wooden, half-metal "needle" into her pocket. "All packed up?"
Vera nodded and pushed her wheelchair toward the exit, but McGonagall suddenly called out from the lectern. "Miss Black, please stay behind."
Harry and Hermione gave Vera worried looks. Vera reassured them with her eyes. "You two go on ahead. I'll catch up soon."
Once only the two of them remained in the classroom, McGonagall fixed Vera with a stern expression. "Miss Black, regarding this morning..."
Vera lowered her eyes. "I'm sorry, Professor. I touched your Animagus form without permission."
Professor McGonagall raised an eyebrow slightly. "You know about Animagi?"
"I read about them in an extracurricular book. Wizards who can completely transform into animals while retaining human intelligence are called Animagi." Vera answered cautiously. "But I didn't expect it to be you."
The corner of Professor McGonagall's lips lifted almost imperceptibly, but she maintained her stern demeanor. "It seems Miss Black has read extensively. Your talent for Transfiguration is equally impressive. First-years who can successfully cast a Transfiguration Spell on their first attempt are exceedingly rare."
Vera shook her head softly. "I was just lucky, Professor."
"Luck?" Professor McGonagall gave a light laugh. "There is no such thing as luck in Transfiguration. Your control over your magic is extremely precise, almost unlike that of a beginner."
"Perhaps it's because I studied it beforehand at home." Vera answered quietly, her fingers unconsciously rubbing the wheelchair armrest. She looked somewhat lonely. "After all, I have plenty of time to... study these things."
Professor McGonagall fell silent for a moment before finally nodding. "In any case, Miss Black, your talent must not be wasted. I look forward to seeing you in my Transfiguration Club one day."
Vera froze briefly, then smiled. "I'll work hard, Professor."
As she pushed her wheelchair out of the classroom, Vera thoughtfully recalled the Transfiguration Club McGonagall had just mentioned.
Though it had never been mentioned in the original story, Slughorn had his Slug Club in sixth year. It did not seem strange for Professor McGonagall, who was also both a Head of House and a core subject teacher, to have a Transfiguration Club of her own.
So... was this McGonagall extending an olive branch to her in advance?

[Host, we must save beautiful girls with love! Change the tragic endings of the original story! Find sweet romance! Do great things! GO!]
"No."
My name is Yu Yachen. I'm twenty-three years old, live in Lungmen City, and am an ordinary office worker.
Although something called the [Succubus Development Simulator] has been pestering me, I have not carried out a single so-called [simulation].
Because the system judged me to be very similar to a guy named Kira Yoshikage, I also gained a Stand ability called [Killer Queen], which amplified my inner desires.
Fortunately, although I sometimes became a perverted serial killer because of my desires, I was able to escape danger every time and dispel the police's suspicions.
[Host! What happened to developing succubi... Fine, this system will now issue you an ultimate mission! Complete one simulation to obtain Star Platinum! Complete five simulations to obtain Wonder of U!]
[Mission issued: Save the fallen Reunion Movement]
"The rewards are pretty generous. I'll take it."
After staging one damsel-in-distress rescue after another in the simulations, Yu Yachen opened her front door to head to work, only to suddenly discover a group of beautiful girls gathered outside her home.
"Wait, how did you find my address?"
The Moving Staircases
As Vera was thinking, hurried footsteps suddenly sounded from around the corner of the corridor.
Harry and Hermione poked their heads out from behind a stone pillar, their eyes brimming with concern. "Vera! Professor McGonagall didn't give you a hard time, did she?"
Vera pushed her wheelchair over to them and gently shook her head. "We only talked about Transfiguration. The professor said I did fairly well."
Hermione visibly relaxed, then became excited again. "Professor McGonagall's Transfiguration is incredible! I can hardly believe she can turn into a cat! And did you notice? The pattern on her glasses is exactly the same as the markings on her cat form!"
"Animagus transformations retain certain human traits." Vera explained softly. "For example, the pattern of someone's glasses, or habitual movements."
Hermione looked at her admiringly. "You even know that? Which book did you read it in?"
Amused by the inquisitive look in her eyes, Vera gave her the title of the book. Hermione immediately pulled out a small notebook and wrote it down, muttering to herself, "Mm, I definitely have to borrow it and read it..."
Seeing Hermione like that, Harry could not help laughing. "Hermione, are you trying to turn yourself into a walking encyclopedia?"
Hermione blushed and quickly put away her notebook. "I just think... since we've come to the wizarding world, we should learn as much about this knowledge as possible."
"Being eager to learn is a good thing." Vera nodded. "There are no more classes this morning. Should we go back to the common room, or go to the library?"
Unlike in the movies, Hogwarts first-years actually had relatively relaxed schedules. They only had eleven or twelve lessons a week, so new students would have enough time to explore the castle and familiarize themselves with the routes.
Harry paused, asking in confusion, "The library? What are we going there for?"
Vera lightly turned her wheelchair and looked toward the staircase at the end of the corridor. "Professor McGonagall just assigned homework. Aren't we going to do it?"
"Well..." Harry instinctively looked troubled. As a standard Gryffindor, she clearly wanted to explore the castle more than sit in the library doing homework.
She scratched her hair and muttered softly, "But it's still early... Couldn't we get familiar with the castle first? Those staircases are so complicated..."
Seeing Harry's conflicted yet expectant expression, Vera could not help softening. She turned to Hermione. "What do you think?"
Hermione bit her lip, clearly caught between her thirst for knowledge and her sense of adventure. "Um... I really want to see the other parts of the castle too, but if we don't finish our homework..."
Even the future Minister for Magic was still only a child who occasionally struggled with such decisions.
Vera gave a quiet laugh. "Then we'll explore the castle first and go to the library this afternoon."
"I have no objections!" Harry immediately raised her hand. Once she saw Hermione's expression soften as well, she promptly began pushing Vera's wheelchair. "Let's go! I heard there are lots of interesting paintings and ghosts in the castle!"
The three of them headed down the corridor and began exploring the castle.
They encountered quite a few ghosts, and most of them greeted the girls kindly.
Even more fortunately, they did not encounter Peeves at all this time. They would often hear him in the distance playing tricks on someone, but when they chased after the sound, aside from the students being pranked, there was never any sign of the poltergeist.
Vera's wheelchair easily handled all kinds of staircases under the effects of a powerful Hover Charm, which greatly relieved both Harry and Hermione.
"Look, there really are moving staircases!" Hermione exclaimed in delight as she looked at a staircase moving in the distance. "That's amazing."
Harry stepped closer to observe it curiously. "So do these staircases move at random?"
"Seems like it." Hermione shook her head. "There doesn't seem to be a fixed schedule showing when they move or disappear."
Vera looked thoughtfully at the staircase in the distance and quietly activated her Magic Circuit.
In her vision, faint golden patterns emerged over the ancient staircases—the traces of ancient magic. They flowed across the stone steps like living creatures, guiding the staircases' movements.
Still, if it was magic, there had to be patterns to follow.
Her gaze searched about before finally settling on an inconspicuous carving along the staircase railing.
A tiny section of the railing's decorative carving was glowing with an extremely faint golden light. Whenever that rune lit up, the staircase began to move.
Of course, people who had not awakened a Magic Circuit could not see that golden glow. Otherwise, Hogwarts had existed for so many years, and with outstanding wizards as numerous as fish crossing a river, someone would have noticed the pattern long ago.
Vera looked thoughtfully at that concealed light and said warmly, "It's almost noon. Let's go to the Great Hall and get something to eat."
The moment she finished speaking, Harry's stomach suddenly began to rumble. She covered her little belly in embarrassment, blinking. "Then we should hurry!"
Although Hermione still wanted to study the staircases' patterns, hearing that they were going to the Great Hall forced her to temporarily set aside her curiosity and turn away.
Vera pushed her wheelchair, deliberately lagging a few steps behind them. Her fingertips lightly touched the glowing carving, and the entire staircase suddenly stopped moving.
A faintly excited smile rose to her lips. She slowly moved her fingers away, and the staircase silently began moving again.
With the Magic Circuit, she really could influence Hogwarts's internal facilities...
Vera immediately withdrew her hand, glanced at the staircase behind her, and pushed her wheelchair after the others.
It was lunchtime, and the Great Hall was bustling. All kinds of delicious food filled the four long tables.
The moment Harry sat down, she started piling food onto her plate. Hermione ate while flipping through the textbook for their afternoon Herbology class, and she did not forget to remind them that they needed to do their homework after Herbology ended.
Vera quietly enjoyed her lunch, her gaze casually sweeping over the staff table—Professor Quirrell had his head lowered as he distractedly stirred the food on his plate, while Snape occasionally cast sharp looks toward the Gryffindor table.
"Vera," Harry suddenly leaned closer and lowered her voice, "why does that professor over there keep staring this way?"
Vera calmly withdrew her gaze. "That's Professor Snape, our Potions teacher. He... may be observing the first-years' performance."
Harry pursed her lips, clearly unconvinced. "His look is so strange... Do you think Potions will be difficult?"
"As long as you follow the steps, there won't be a problem." Vera comforted her softly, then suddenly remembered something. "By the way, do you remember the potion knowledge I mentioned last night?"
Harry blinked. "The bit about powdered asphodel root and wormwood making a sleeping draught?"
"Mm." Vera nodded, the corners of her lips lifting slightly. "They're all important points. Just remember them."
Although she did not know why Vera had suddenly smiled, Harry stared at the smile on her lips for a moment before seriously nodding.
A Day of Learning
The afternoon Herbology class was not too difficult. The students only needed to learn how to identify and care for Dittany.
For Vera, aside from the knowledge taught in the textbook, her only gain was that she could determine which stage of growth the herbs had reached by the color they showed within her Magic Circuit.
As for more specific operations, she could only carry them out herself.
The evening History of Magic class was even more boring. Professor Binns droned on in a monotonous, dull voice while the students hastily scribbled down names and dates.
Even Vera could not help fighting sleep several times in that drowsy atmosphere. When she turned her head, she realized nearly everyone was in the same state as her. Only Hermione was still writing furiously.
Top students were terrifying...
Vera could not help clicking her tongue. She turned to look at Harry beside her, who was already using her History of Magic textbook as a pillow, and let out a soft sigh.
She reached out and gently patted Harry's shoulder. "Wake up. Class is almost over."
Harry groggily raised her head. Her glasses sat crookedly on her face, and there was still an imprint from the book on her forehead. "Mm... I fell asleep?"
"Looks like Professor Binns's voice really does have a hypnotic effect." Vera teased softly, helping her straighten her glasses.
Harry rubbed her eyes and muttered quietly, "I think I might have missed the whole class..."
"It's fine." Vera reassured her, a knowing smile spreading across her face. "We can copy Hermione's notes together."
Harry's eyes lit up, and she and Vera looked at Hermione in perfect unspoken agreement.
Feeling their sudden stares, Hermione unusually wore an utterly confused expression.
Soon, the first day of classes came to a quiet end.
After dinner, the three girls dragged their tired bodies back to Gryffindor Tower, where the Fat Lady's portrait opened the passage for them.
Quite a few students were already chatting or doing homework in the common room. The fire in the fireplace crackled, warm and comfortable.
"Tomorrow morning is Charms," Hermione said as she checked the timetable. "Then Defense Against the Dark Arts... Oh no, we have to prepare in advance!"
Harry collapsed into an armchair and weakly waved a hand. "I feel like my brain has been hollowed out... How does Professor Binns manage to make History of Magic more effective than sleeping draughts?"
Hermione sat down with a thick textbook in her arms and shot her a dissatisfied glance. "That's over a thousand years of wizarding history! How interesting is that?"
"Yeah, interesting enough that I nearly drooled all over my textbook." Harry made a small face at her.
Vera watched the two bicker, and the corners of her mouth rose unconsciously.
She pushed her wheelchair over to the desk beside the fireplace and took out textbooks and parchment from the expanded space in her wheelchair.
"Shouldn't we start on the Herbology homework assigned this afternoon?" she reminded them softly.
Hermione jolted. "Right! I almost forgot!"
As she spoke, she hurriedly got up and ran toward the dormitory. "Wait a moment, I'll go get my notes!"
Harry let out a mournful sigh and slowly shuffled over to Vera. "Do we really have to write it now? My brain is still floating in the ocean of History of Magic..."
Vera handed her a piece of parchment. "Writing it now is better than rushing it tomorrow. If you can't think of anything, I can help you organize your ideas."
Harry gratefully accepted the parchment, her green eyes glittering in the firelight. "I knew Vera was the best!"
Caught completely off guard by those beautiful green eyes, Vera froze for a moment before instinctively looking away. "It's just a small favor."
