By then, Romon had narrowed his eyes.

Most of the little balls of light were only the size of ping-pong balls. Each looked incredibly soft, like a balloon filled with water, as though the slightest touch would burst it.

Indeed, as soon as these balls of light landed on the ground, they burst!

A figure tumbled out of each little ball of light. These figures were tiny too, and the moment they fell out, they struggled to rise. Though only the size of a thumb and somewhat transparent, every one of them had a human form, with all four limbs and faces no different from those of ordinary humans. There were men and women, old people and adults in their prime, dressed in all manner of clothing.

"These are all... human souls!" Their appearance shocked Romon even more.

Immediately afterward, something even more horrifying unfolded before his eyes.

Suddenly, black light surged across the ground of the Abyss. The little figures that had landed and were still struggling to get up let out increasingly agonized screams almost simultaneously as their bodies touched the black earth.

"No..." they wailed.

Their piercing cries echoed in Romon's ears. As he watched, their bodies abruptly began to twist.

An even more horrifying sight followed. The souls twisted into lumps, then transformed into insect bodies. A human face appeared on each lump of flesh, wailing in pain. The sight was utterly revolting.

Romon had to fight hard to keep himself from vomiting.

These tiny souls had looked human, no different from him, only to transform abruptly into such disgusting insect-like creatures. Who could watch that without feeling something?

Romon's stomach churned, but he managed to hold it down.
