Organization and Operations
The Patrol Bureau investigates supernatural crimes, registers citizens' Ability Models, maintains evidence, and can invoke armed-escalation procedures against dangerous perpetrators. Its reports and law-enforcement recordings are used in later legal rulings. 4 14 39
- Discipline Patrol — The Bureau's field presence in Districts C and D. These units are composed of university-student officers rather than the Bureau's core personnel, but remain a force civilians cannot readily oppose. 6
- C-112 Squad — Xia Zhi's District D Discipline Patrol squad. Its known members include C01/Xia Zhi, C02/Ji Jin, C03, C04, C05, C06, and C07; Ron later joins as C08. 4 39 45 46
- Forensics Department — Handles autopsies, corpse examination, evidence collection, and the Bureau's underground morgue. Professional certification is required for direct corpse handling. 44 45
- Logistics Department — Issues credentials, uniforms, recorders, standard equipment, and supplies authorized through the Bureau's Intelligent Brain system. 45 48
- District D Central Patrol Bureau — A local branch with a young director, ability-testing facilities, a forensics department, and an underground morgue. 14 15 45
Artemis Support
The Bureau can obtain investigative access to Artemis, Ideal City's Intelligent Brain sector associated with Patrol Bureau operations. Artemis can analyze lost-surveillance periods, identify potential witnesses, support personnel records, and process Authority requests. 4 45 48
During the investigation of the old magician's death, Artemis identified more than a hundred possible witnesses and flagged Ron among the most relevant individuals. 4
Resources and Public Presence
- Ability testing — Verifies identity through fingerprints and irises, compares Ability Models against prior records, and updates official ability files. 14
- Evidence handling — Officers can secure remains, preserve specimens, and transport evidence; Xia Zhi uses spatial teleportation to send bodies and ashes directly to the Bureau. 14
- Restraints and protective equipment — Field agents use restraint tools, black uniforms, badges, law-enforcement recorders, and specialized equipment. Patrol Bureau-derived Ability Limiters were formerly used to restrain dangerous Superpowered criminals. 10 39 45
- Standard issue — Ron later obtains equipment including flashbang grenades and nanomedical spray through Bureau Logistics. 48
- Woof Woof Officer — The District D branch's black-uniformed dog mascot. Created by C-112 to make the Bureau more approachable, it gained social-media followers and merchandise sales. 14 45
- Advertising revenue — District D's Bureau building displays advertisements in its elevators because the branch lacks the Authority membership needed to remove them. 14
History
Investigation of the Old Magician's Death
C-112 investigated a surveillance blackout in Tian Ting Block 271 and classified the scene as a Class B malicious supernatural incident. The team found ash capable of affecting Xia Zhi's Personal Reality, concluded that at least one citizen had been killed, and requested Artemis assistance because all local surveillance had been destroyed. 4
C01 later questioned Ron as a possible witness. Although she sensed something unusual in his apartment and searched it using spatial teleportation, she found no evidence and recorded him as unrelated to the case. 5 6
Special Task Force Intervention
A black-robed special task force from higher authorities removed C-112 from the serial-killer investigation. Xia Zhi reported that the group did not visibly investigate the case; instead, its members repeatedly gathered in a secluded room to pray before a statue. 13 15
Ron recognized a magic-array ring on one task-force member that resembled the ring carried by the old magician, strengthening his suspicion that the case's magical elements were being concealed from ordinary Patrol Bureau officers. 14 15
Recognition of Ron's Mutated Ability
After Ron killed a wanted criminal in apparent self-defense, Xia Zhi brought him to the District D Central Patrol Bureau to register his ability and apply for a commendation. Testing confirmed that his destructive power was a late-awakening mutation of his recorded Telekinesis, classifying him as a “Raw Stone.” 14
Xia Zhi used her influence to seek a Good Citizen Medal rather than a basic bravery award. The medal later served as an identity chip granting Ron preferential treatment and special Authority during the College Entrance Examination. 15 23 24
Void-Monster Crisis
When Void monsters attacked a District D high school, the Bureau's emergency system was overwhelmed by simultaneous incidents; one operator stated that 192 cases were ahead of the school's report. 38
C-112 ultimately responded without support from other field squads, dividing into rescue, evacuation, combat, and restraint teams. Their abilities were weakened by the monsters' interference with Personal Reality, and Ron covertly intervened to save Xia Zhi before openly helping neutralize a Minotaur-like Void creature. 39
Ron's Recruitment
Impressed by Ron's performance, Xia Zhi offered him a place in the Patrol Bureau, emphasizing mission credits, merit, allowances, and access to computational Authority. Ron accepted immediately after learning the value of the credits. 39
The District D director formally added Ron to C-112 as Discipline Patrol C08, granting him law-enforcement Authority in District D along with a work ID, uniforms, and recorder. 45 46
Relationships
- Xia Zhi / C01 — C-112 captain and Enforcement Agent. She investigated Ron as a possible witness, later supported his ability registration and Good Citizen Medal application, and recruited him into her squad. 4 14 39 45
- Ron / C08 — Initially a person of interest in the old magician case; later a Good Citizen Medal recipient and official C-112 officer assigned to morgue duty. 4 23 45 46
- Artemis — Intelligent Brain support system whose permissions are unlocked through the Patrol Bureau for surveillance analysis, records, and Authority-related functions. 4 45
- Moen Municipal Government — The Bureau operates under the city government and is linked to City Hall institutions such as Moen University. 6 14
- Special task force — Higher-authority unit that displaced C-112 from the serial-killer investigation; its black-robed members aroused suspicion because of their apparent magical connections and unexplained ritual activity. 13 15
- Noah Pharmaceuticals and Ark — The Bureau investigates consequences linked to their suspected experiments, but Ron distrusts the institution's ability to expose or punish powerful corporate actors. 39 47 48
