Background

Haku served Zabuza Momochi as a devoted companion and weapon. While traveling with Zabuza, Haku concealed aspects of his identity in order to remain useful at Zabuza's side; Haku later explained that a girl could not have accompanied Zabuza as his weapon. Zabuza treated Haku as a trusted junior or family member, even while publicly calling Haku a disposable tool 64 71 147.

During the Land of Waves mission, Haku disguised himself as a Kirigakure hunter-nin after intervening in Kakashi's battle with Zabuza. He used senbon to place Zabuza in a deathlike state, intending to retrieve him safely, but Kakashi quickly exposed the deception 61 62.

After Kakashi defeated Zabuza and forced him to accept an alliance, Haku chose to leave with Kakashi for Konoha. Haku wished to study, become stronger, and eventually protect both Kakashi and Zabuza during the coming crisis 65 67.
