Background

Chiyan was originally a towering Fire God with immense Fire-Source Power. When danger approached during his long dormancy, he defensively decomposed from a complete Flame Crystal into countless Flame Gems rather than allowing humans to carry away his intact true body. The scattered gems retained fragments of his Origin Power and later became objects of human exploitation 54.

He awoke when excavation and explosives tore apart Flaming Mountain. Initially appearing as the Earthfire Core, he was captured in the corrupted Mountain Pillar Core before Mountain Shaman reclaimed the artifact and helped release him. Chiyan's depleted Origin Power forced him into the form of a small red-haired child rather than his former adult body 51 52.

After reclaiming the Flame Gems still present on Flaming Mountain, Chiyan moved to Qinglan River with He Qinglan. There, He Qinglan monitored him because stolen Flame Gems and Corrupting Miasma could affect his judgment and potentially drive him berserk 54 56 60.

The Human-Deity Group later used corrupted Flame Gems to force Fire-Source Power back into Chiyan. The influx drove him into a violent frenzy, caused widespread supernatural fires, and nearly made him self-destruct his Primordial Spirit. He Qinglan ultimately purified his power and Origin, confirming that Chiyan had been manipulated rather than acting of his own will 64 66.

Appearance

Chiyan's appearance changes drastically with the condition of his Origin Power.

Personality

Chiyan is loud, arrogant, foul-mouthed, and intensely competitive. He habitually insults other gods, targets their sore points, and refuses to concede weakness even when visibly outmatched. His provocations made him one of the gods most frequently beaten in ancient times 51 52.

Despite his bluster, he is emotionally direct and fiercely loyal to old companions. He reacts with outrage when humans exploit his Flame Gems, becomes enraged by Mu Sen's imprisonment, and rushes to save Wind Spiral when he senses his friend's power inside the Meng City tornado 54 79 86 90.

Chiyan is deeply cynical about humanity's greed and destructiveness. However, he does not judge every person by the same standard: he hesitates to kill Lu Tianqi after witnessing him save a girl, and eventually agrees to help humans during the Meng City crisis if they do not destroy themselves through recklessness 63 88.

Flaming Mountain Awakening

Human excavators destroy Flaming Mountain in pursuit of red gemstones, awakening Chiyan as the Earthfire Core. The attempt to seize him with the corrupted Mountain Pillar exposes both his weakened state and the human effort to weaponize divine treasures 51 52.

Recovery at Qinglan River

After recovering the remaining Flame Gems from Flaming Mountain, Chiyan becomes an unwilling resident of Qinglan River. He Qinglan keeps him under supervision in Purifying Water, while Shui Wuyuan repeatedly tries—and fails—to send him away 54 56 60.

Wish Gem Investigation

Chiyan joins He Qinglan and Shui Wuyuan in pursuing criminals empowered by stolen Flame Gems. He is especially enraged by humans using his power for murder and greed, but his hesitation over Lu Tianqi shows that he can recognize moral ambiguity 62 63.
