Background

Ling Yunzi brought Yue Lian into the Nine-Clear Haoran Sect as a new disciple at the same time Chu Zeming entered the world. His beauty immediately provoked an unnatural mutual attraction, though Yue openly accepted it while Chu reacted with hostility and denial. 1 3

From the beginning, Ling Yunzi treated Yue with exceptional favoritism. He warned Chu not to harm Yue after their confrontation in the bamboo forest, supplied Yue with servants, and repeatedly prioritized him because a divination foretold that he would become exceptionally influential. 4 7 16

Yue’s past is obscured by amnesia. He remembers awakening with a seal placed by his former self and a single warning: “Do not ascend.” He claims that he originally infiltrated the sect for amusement, but later chose to remain because of Chu Zeming. 40

His connection to the Black Lotus first surfaced in the Extreme Sea Secret Realm, where Chu encountered a dangerous white-robed figure with Yue’s face and a black lotus mark. Yue later returned with a severe abdominal wound and admitted that he had an elder brother, further deepening Chu’s suspicions. 14

Beneath the performance, Yue is observant, manipulative, and willing to deceive entire groups to reach his goals. He invents identities for himself and Chu, distributes suspicious dual-cultivation manuals, and stages compromising situations that force others to view him as Chu’s partner. 22 26 38

After Chu leaves the Nine-Clear Haoran Sect, Yue abandons the sect as well and secretly follows him north. He treats Chu’s demonic injury and becomes his accepted—if begrudging—travelling companion. 43 44
