Background
Chang Wei grew up as a lone cultivator who survived through constant fighting. He rarely remained in the Heavenly Remnant Sect, instead training outside year-round; his cultivation, techniques, and combat experience were earned through bloodshed and wounds rather than formal instruction. By age thirty-six, he had reached the peak Golden Core Stage and developed his own body-cultivation methods. 18 35
Although he appears fierce and intimidating, Chang Wei longs for a gentle, beautiful partner. His first sight of Yue Lian during the Joint Grand Tournament immediately overrides Lu Benxiong's order to cripple Chu Zeming. 18
Appearance
Chang Wei is a towering, heavily muscled man whose initial appearance projects the image of a hardened battlefield cultivator.
- Bulging muscles and a powerful build shaped by years of body cultivation. 18 35
- Originally wore a fur vest that exposed his arms and bore a three-inch facial scar. 18
- Has a full beard and thick hair. 20 40
- Later removed his facial scar and lightened his complexion through beauty treatments. 35
- Commonly wears a black hooded cloak to prevent tanning and protect his skin from sunlight. 35
Personality
Chang Wei is straightforward, sincere, and intensely stubborn. He rejects the status and security offered by cultivation sects because he is accustomed to relying on himself, even refusing Ling Yunzi's offer to become a personal disciple. 35
His fearsome image sharply contrasts with his romantic naivety and vanity. After Yue Lian calls him ugly, Chang Wei earnestly adopts new clothing, skincare, milk baths, cucumber treatments, and scar-removal methods in hopes of becoming more attractive. He records Chu Zeming's advice in a romance handbook and treats it with complete seriousness. 19 21 35
Despite his initially single-minded pursuit of Yue Lian, Chang Wei values loyalty and companionship. After accepting that Yue Lian's feelings lie elsewhere, he still wants Yue Lian to be happy. When Chu Zeming's group leaves the Nine-Clear Haoran Sect without him, he realizes that their companionship was the happiest period of his life. 38 48

Story Role / Major Arcs
Joint Grand Tournament
Chang Wei enters the tournament as Chu Zeming's first-round opponent and Lu Benxiong's intended instrument of revenge. Though he initially dominates the match through superior cultivation and battlefield experience, he agrees to stage a loss after Chu offers detailed information and courtship advice concerning Yue Lian. 18
He later visits Chu Zeming repeatedly for romantic and beauty advice. Yue Lian's blunt rejection devastates him, but also drives his commitment to changing his appearance. 19 21
Joining the Nine-Clear Haoran Sect
After being reprimanded following his tournament loss, Chang Wei leaves the Heavenly Remnant Sect. He joins the Nine-Clear Haoran Sect despite his exceptional cultivation, voluntarily choosing the lowly position of outer sect servant so he can remain near Chu Zeming and Yue Lian. 35
Ling Yunzi attempts to recruit him as a personal disciple, but Chang Wei refuses on the grounds that no master can teach him what he wants to know—especially beauty and skincare. 35
Torch Dragon Valley Rescue
Chang Wei joins Chu Zeming's rescue party primarily so he can protect Yue Lian. During the expedition, he believes Yue Lian and Chu Zeming have become intimate under the Fox Clan's influence; devastated, he relinquishes his pursuit and insists that Chu must take responsibility for Yue Lian. 36 38
He assists in securing the Man-Faced Owl King's cooperation and forms a sworn-brother bond with the demon through their mutual understanding of unrequited affection. 40
Departure from the Sect
After emerging from seclusion, Chang Wei discovers that Chu Zeming, Yue Lian, Xuan Mo, Ling Tian, and Wu Qi have all left the Nine-Clear Haoran Sect. Ling Yunzi begs him to remain as the sect collapses, but Chang Wei leaves without hesitation. 48
Traveling alone afterward, he recognizes how much he misses his former companions and resolves that he would accept lifelong bachelorhood if he could reunite with them. 48
Notable Quotes
“There are many secret treasures, but love only comes once in a lifetime. Some people—once you miss them, you have truly missed them.” 18
“Do you know beauty and skincare?” 35
Trivia

- He is willing to abandon status, sect affiliation, and even his pursuit of Yue Lian, but not his skincare regimen. 35 48
