Background

Chang Wei grew up as a lone cultivator who survived through constant fighting. He rarely remained in the Heavenly Remnant Sect, instead training outside year-round; his cultivation, techniques, and combat experience were earned through bloodshed and wounds rather than formal instruction. By age thirty-six, he had reached the peak Golden Core Stage and developed his own body-cultivation methods. 18 35

Chang Wei enters the tournament as Chu Zeming's first-round opponent and Lu Benxiong's intended instrument of revenge. Though he initially dominates the match through superior cultivation and battlefield experience, he agrees to stage a loss after Chu offers detailed information and courtship advice concerning Yue Lian. 18

He later visits Chu Zeming repeatedly for romantic and beauty advice. Yue Lian's blunt rejection devastates him, but also drives his commitment to changing his appearance. 19 21

Joining the Nine-Clear Haoran Sect

After being reprimanded following his tournament loss, Chang Wei leaves the Heavenly Remnant Sect. He joins the Nine-Clear Haoran Sect despite his exceptional cultivation, voluntarily choosing the lowly position of outer sect servant so he can remain near Chu Zeming and Yue Lian. 35

Ling Yunzi attempts to recruit him as a personal disciple, but Chang Wei refuses on the grounds that no master can teach him what he wants to know—especially beauty and skincare. 35

Torch Dragon Valley Rescue

Chang Wei joins Chu Zeming's rescue party primarily so he can protect Yue Lian. During the expedition, he believes Yue Lian and Chu Zeming have become intimate under the Fox Clan's influence; devastated, he relinquishes his pursuit and insists that Chu must take responsibility for Yue Lian. 36 38

Departure from the Sect
