Naruto Uzumaki transformed from a detached new graduate into a ruthless commander, leading Team 7 through the Land of Waves conflict and recruiting Haku and Zabuza into his plans. After confronting the Nine-Tails and Shimura Danzō, Naruto secured an agreement to join Root on his own terms.

• Naruto Uzumaki exposed Mizuki’s betrayal, killed him, and told Hiruzen Sarutobi that Orochimaru planned to attack during the Chunin Ninja Exams.
• Naruto joined Team 7, took control of Kakashi Hatake’s bell test, and led the team to continue the Land of Waves mission after Tazuna revealed Gato’s oppression.
• Naruto organized a village militia and prepared Team 7 to confront Gato’s forces while urging Sasuke Uchiha to master his hatred.
• Naruto persuaded Haku that Zabuza’s alliance with Gato betrayed their shared dream, then led more than a thousand Shadow Clones in defeating Gato’s armed men.
• Zabuza killed Gato and pledged allegiance to Naruto, while Naruto later sent Haku to gather intelligence and recruit dissatisfied factions in Kirigakure.
• Naruto overpowered the Nine-Tails in his mindscape and ordered it to call him “Commissar.”

Naruto reshaped Root, pushed Team 7 through the Chunin Exams, and confronted Orochimaru’s attack and Sasuke’s Curse Mark. After the preliminaries, he summoned Karsten from another world, then confirmed he could perform a controlled summoning by calling Gamakichi.

• Naruto overcame Zero’s Genjutsu, earned a probationary place in Root, and secretly gained Zero’s loyalty as he began reorganizing the organization.
• Naruto trained Sasuke and Sakura harshly, built a Chainsword, and identified Gaara as a source of Warp contamination during the Chunin Exams.
• Naruto fought Orochimaru in the Forest of Death, but Kabuto’s neurotoxin left him unconscious while Orochimaru marked Sasuke with a Curse Mark.
• Haku and Zero rescued Naruto and Team 7, and Naruto later identified Sasuke’s Curse Mark as a soul contract before making Sakura his medic.
• Naruto stopped Sasuke’s Curse Mark rampage, led Team 7 to the tower, and defeated Kiba before intervening to save Lee from Gaara’s attack.
• Naruto defended his intervention to Hiruzen, received the Shuriken Shadow Clone Technique from Danzo, and began training with Jiraiya while Hinata grew closer to him.
• Naruto summoned Karsten, who recognized him as his Commissar and demonstrated his Bolter, but Jiraiya agreed to keep the strange event secret.
• Naruto controlled the next summoning and called Gamakichi, confirming that the summoning had worked as a normal technique.

Naruto exposed Danzō’s abuses, defeated Neji, and led Konoha’s defense against the invasion. He then summoned Julian to fight Orochimaru’s reanimated Hokage, leaving the battle underway as Tobirama damaged Julian’s armor and power pack.

• Naruto trained Karsten and prepared the Cadia 8th Regiment for a future battle, then investigated Danzō’s role in Sakumo Hatake’s ruin and used Karsten to shoot Danzō, only for Izanagi to revive him.
• Naruto defeated Neji in the Chunin Ninja Exams Finals and demanded that Hiashi remove the Caged Bird curse mark from the branch family or face a version placed on the main family.
• When the Konoha Crush began, Naruto’s clones protected civilians and fought the invaders while other clones subdued Shukaku and captured Gaara.
• Naruto and the Karsten Squad broke through the Four Violet Flames Formation and confronted Hiruzen, Orochimaru, Hashirama, and Tobirama, accusing Hiruzen of failing the Will of Fire.
• After the reanimated Hokage overwhelmed the Karsten Squad, Naruto dismissed the soldiers and summoned Julian of the Ultramarines, who destroyed Hashirama’s Wood Dragon and joined the fight.
• Naruto and Hiruzen coordinated against the reanimated brothers as Julian battered Hashirama and resisted Tobirama’s darkness genjutsu.
• Naruto disrupted Tobirama’s ambush with his chainsword, but Tobirama damaged Julian’s left knee armor and flooded his power pack with the Great Waterfall Technique.

After the invasion, Naruto seized control of Root, exposed Danzo’s crimes, and reorganized the group while training new operatives. He arranged for Neji’s Curse Mark to be removed through a Daimyō’s Palace appointment, leaving his broader plan to reshape Konoha underway.

• Naruto exposed Danzo’s crimes and challenged Hiruzen, but Danzo used Kotoamatsukami to secure Hiruzen’s public endorsement as Fifth Hokage before Naruto wounded him and he escaped.
• Naruto and Kakashi pursued Danzo to Root’s base, where Zero revealed his betrayal and joined the fight, and Danzo survived repeated attacks with Izanagi before Naruto forced him to flee through the Iron Coffin Seal.
• Danzo activated the Reverse Four Symbols Seal, but Naruto’s plan delayed it and teleported Danzo away, and Hiruzen then gave Naruto full authority over Root.
• Naruto reorganized Root under a Code of Duty, offered its members a choice to serve or retire, and assigned Kenta Kobayashi to reproduce the Bolter design while Sai began exploring his emotions through drawing.
• Naruto recruited Neji as a long-range marksman, trained him as Cicada Shell, and sent Root to protect Yui and purge suspected foreign spies from Konoha.
• Naruto arranged for the Daimyō’s Palace to appoint Neji as a reserve candidate for the Twelve Guardian Ninja, giving the Hyuga Clan three days to remove his Caged Bird Curse Mark.
