Background / History

Chu Zihang was an outstanding Shilan High School graduate whose reputation made him difficult for even former classmates to contact. He was admired widely at the school, and Liu Miaomiao collected rare photographs of him; despite this attention, he was known to treat admirers with distance and remained exceptionally busy abroad. 12 15

At Cassell College, he became president of the Lionheart Club and gained a formidable reputation as an “Ultra A-Rank.” Behind the severe image associated with the Executive Department, however, he retains an ordinary, vulnerable side: when asleep, club members describe him as looking like a clean-cut boy next door rather than an intimidating combatant. 10

He had noticed Lu Mingfei long before their friendship became explicit. Chu remembers Lu’s helplessness from a rainy night and identifies with it; this recognition motivates his repeated willingness to risk his own life for Lu. 16

Chu Zihang has short, neat black hair and long, elegant hands. When asleep or at rest, his appearance is notably softer than his usual stern, cold presence. 10

He is deeply self-sacrificing. In Genji Heavy Industries, he remains behind to cover the group’s retreat and is impaled while protecting the others; later, he continues escalating Blood Rage against Jormungandr even as it threatens to erase his humanity. 4 34 35

Although socially awkward and literal, he makes a sincere effort to understand people. Xia Mi challenges him to consider whether helping Lu Mingfei pursue Chen Wenwen is truly the same as giving Lu hope; Chu accepts that he has not sufficiently considered what Lu himself wants. 30

Chu is among Lu Mingfei’s original companions in the recurring Genji Heavy Industries dungeon. He repeatedly protects Lu and later remains behind to cover the others’ retreat, suffering a severe impalement before Lu rescues him. 1 4

Despite his injuries, he provides cover during the escape, supports Lu emotionally with a practical promise of help, and treats Caesar after the group reaches the elevator. 6 7 8

Reconnecting with Lu Mingfei

Lu contacts Chu as a Shilan alumnus, expecting rejection due to Chu’s famously difficult friend list. Chu accepts immediately, answers every question carefully, and contacts a youth-center coach on Lu’s behalf. 15 16

Their exchange confirms the depth of Chu’s earlier concern for Lu. He remembers Lu from before Cassell and considers helping someone like himself “quite a good thing.” 16

Nibelungen Rescue Operation

Chu enters the Nibelungen before Lu, apparently expecting to clear the path for the dragon-slaying operation even at the risk of his own death. 20

Inside, he travels with Xia Mi through the tunnels, reflects on how to give Lu genuine hope, and later reunites with Lu after activating Blood Rage. 29 30 31

Fenrir and Jormungandr

Chu coordinates with Lu and Xia Mi against Fenrir, charging an enhanced Jun Yan while Lu distracts the Dragon King. Their combined attack gravely wounds Fenrir but reveals Xia Mi’s hidden status as Jormungandr. 32

After Jormungandr transforms, Chu draws Pride and Envy and fights beside Lu. He ultimately activates Third Blood Rage in an attempt to protect Lu, but loses control and is defeated by Jormungandr. 33 34 35

Jormungandr impales him after he asks whether she is truly Xia Mi. Later, Lu Mingfei’s command—“Don’t die”—forces the world to preserve him. 36 38
