Background

Two years before the story, Lu Mingfei began dreaming of a thirteen-dungeon “Life Strategy Game Interface.” He selected Genji Heavy Industries as his beginner dungeon, chose Hard Mode, and set himself the goal of loading the scenario 700 times. The repeated deaths and battles against Deadpools left him exhausted, detached, and unable to live normally. 1

His dream experiences began bleeding into reality through hallucinations and auditory disturbances. After a hallucination-driven confrontation with his aunt, he was pushed out of his uncle and aunt’s home and became effectively homeless. At school, classmates and teachers saw only an unfocused student who slept through class. 1 2

Lu repeatedly returned to Genji Heavy Industries because he refused to accept an incomplete clear: he wanted to save Chu Zihang, Caesar Gattuso, and Gen Chisei together. After achieving the clear, he returned to a desolate standby city and confronted the loneliness of relationships that vanish once an instance closes. 2 4 9

He later discovered that Cassell College had monitored him for years and regarded him as a potential “secret weapon.” Rather than continuing to hide, he chose to live more openly and seek out connections of his own—beginning with Chu Zihang. 11 15 16

Appearance

Lu Mingfei is a black-haired youth whose ordinary appearance improves noticeably as his bloodline awakens. He normally wears his hair with bangs, though he can slick it back; during his youth-center work, he wears a black-and-white kendo uniform. 3 12 43

  • His awakened Golden Eyes can ignite during combat and supernatural encounters. 3 12
  • In Pseudo-Dragon Bone State, black scales spread across his neck, face, and body. 3 27
  • After the Nibelungen transformation, his hair grows nearly to his waist and his left eye becomes permanently golden with a dark-red vertical pupil. 27
  • His incomplete kinglike form manifests skeletal dragon wings. 38

Personality

Lu Mingfei presents himself as tired, evasive, and unmotivated, using sarcasm and absurd humor to deflect fear, shame, and loneliness. He is prone to overthinking ordinary social situations, particularly romance, while remaining unusually calm in the presence of monsters and death. 1 6 17

He is deeply stubborn. His habit of pursuing perfect endings drives him to replay impossible scenarios rather than abandon companions, and eventually leads him to reject the idea that the people in his dungeons are disposable NPCs. 2 4 7

Despite considering himself an “orange soda” beside exceptional people, Lu becomes decisive when someone he values is in danger. His protectiveness toward Chu Zihang, Caesar, Gen Chisei, and later Lu Mingze reflects a growing willingness to accept responsibility rather than escape into games or dreams. 5 7 25 40

Abilities & Skills

Mixed-Blood Physiology

Lu possesses extraordinary baseline physical ability even before drawing fully on his dragon blood.

  • Offense and speed are rated S+ at his initial documented S-Rank state; constitution is rated SS-. 2
  • His firearms skill is rated SS+, while his status panel notes that he is no longer meaningfully comparable to ordinary humans. 2 27
  • He can run 100 meters in 6.46 seconds, a result considered beyond normal and most A-rank hybrid limits. 20
  • His enhanced hearing lets him detect surveillance and identify voices through sound patterns. 11 35

Blood Sickle

Blood Sickle is Lu’s primary Word Spirit. It controls and condenses airflow into invisible cutting fragments.

  • Can shred nearby Dead Servants with razor-sharp wind fragments. 6
  • Can be concentrated to cut through Deadpool scales, though this consumes substantial mental energy. 7
  • Enhances his auditory awareness and helps him track movement in low visibility. 23 35
  • Its expanded control forms the basis of his developing Forbidden Domain. 7

Prototype Forbidden Domain

Lu develops a fortress-like shell of compressed black wind around himself.

  • Stops small-caliber pistol rounds and slows rifle bullets. 7
  • Lets him control surrounding air fragments more precisely. 7
  • Causes headaches and mental fatigue if sustained; a short nap restores the energy spent. 7
  • Remains incomplete, functioning as an outer shell rather than a fully realized domain. 7

Pseudo-Dragon Bone State and Killing Heart

Evolution Potions can force Lu into a draconic combat state, dramatically increasing his physical ability.

  • Produces scales, Golden Eyes, heightened healing, and superhuman combat performance. 3 4 27
  • Accumulated doses can trigger uncontrolled transformation and Spirit Vision. 26
  • The associated Killing Heart suppresses kindness, hesitation, and restraint, leaving Lu aware of his own psychological deterioration. 27
  • Its effects later become permanently active following the Earth and Mountains dungeon settlement. 39

Emperor Word Spirit

A command-based authority that imposes Lu’s will on reality.

  • “Cancel” nullifies enemy techniques, including Jormungandr’s condensed reaper’s scythe. 38
  • His command to Chu Zihang—“Don’t die”—is obeyed by the world. 38
  • “Get lost” severs Odin’s connection to Highway 10 and traps the invading force beyond a broken passage. 46
  • Lu Mingze describes the ability as both the most common and rarest Word Spirit: ancient texts can imitate traces of it, but no one else in the era can truly use it. 46

Combat Expertise

Lu’s combat style combines firearms, improvised tactics, and direct swordsmanship shaped by hundreds of lethal dungeon runs.

  • Favors a mix of American firearms and Japanese Iaido. 4
  • Uses battlefield terrain creatively, including cutting elevator cables to block Deadpool reinforcements. 4
  • His Thirteen Consecutive Slashes are a plain but overwhelming pursuit technique learned from Chu Zihang. 23
  • He acknowledges that his anti-human combat technique is weaker than his Deadpool-killing experience; trained mixed-blood martial artists can exploit this weakness. 2 23

Equipment

  • Pride — Alchemical blade and one of the Genuine Seven Sins; later gains the enhanced effect “Inescapable,” which pins Fenrir in place. 23 38 39
  • Wrath — Heavy alchemical blade used extensively against Deadpools and Fenrir. 6 38
  • Lust — Wakizashi that resonates with Lu’s bloodline and can guide him toward a target or destination. 25 33
  • Desert Eagle pistols — Used with specialized ammunition, including mercury-core and tranquilizer rounds. 4 16
  • Evolution Potion — Dangerous bloodline stimulant; grants temporary power at the risk of draconic transformation. 3 26
  • Ancient Dragon Fetal Blood Serum — Rare reward Lu considers using to force a bloodline breakthrough. 9 13 36
  • Earth and Mountains’ Old Covenant — A fragmentary inheritance that temporarily grants access to the remaining one-tenth of Earth and Mountains authority, without turning Lu into a true Dragon King. 39
  • Level 7 Item Inventory — Holds up to 500 slots of weapons, medicines, and dungeon rewards. 2

Relationships

  • Lu Mingze — A mysterious “devil” who calls Lu his brother. Their relationship shifts from distrust and cryptic messages to teasing, comfort, and genuine mutual affection. 3 38 40 46
  • Chu Zihang — Trusted senior and closest battlefield companion. Lu repeatedly risks himself to save Chu, while Chu treats Lu’s life as especially important and worries about what Lu truly wants. 4 16 25 30 38
  • Caesar Gattuso — Genji Heavy Industries teammate whose bravado and blunt philosophy influence Lu’s understanding of love, loyalty, and courage. 5 6 18
  • Gen Chisei — Teammate and fellow survivor of Genji Heavy Industries. Lu admires Gen’s endurance and later uses his executive trench coat during the Nibelungen operation. 4 7 27
  • Fingel von Frings (“Fen Dog”) — Cassell contact, mission coordinator, and irreverent friend. Fingel provides intelligence and uses humor to avoid treating Lu’s apparent farewell as final. 17 22 27
  • Old Tang — Online StarCraft rival who becomes a friend through mutual respect, banter, and shared loneliness. 2 13
  • Chen Wenwen — Former unrequited love. Lu eventually recognizes that her feelings are not reciprocated and chooses emotional distance. 17 18 19
  • Eriya — A powerful girl Lu previously encountered at Genji Heavy Industries. In Tokyo, he becomes protective of her despite remaining wary of what she may become. 48
  • Professor Guderian — Prospective Cassell mentor who becomes fiercely protective after learning that the Board may classify Lu as too dangerous to live freely. 42
