Tobitake Tonbo researched a wind technique in Windrest Valley, then saved the Hagoromo clan from an attack and helped bring its survivors to Konoha. After Itachi Uchiha massacred his clan, Konoha made Tonbo the public face of a new pursuit effort while Sasuke vowed revenge.

• Tobitake Tonbo escorted Hagoromo Ken’s group to Windrest Valley and studied its dangerous winds while the Hagoromo youths began their trial.
• Amegakure attackers slaughtered the Hagoromo clan, but Tobitake Tonbo rescued the trainees, defeated the pursuing enemies, and brought the survivors to Konoha.
• Orochimaru confronted Tobitake Tonbo about the Rinnegan, but Tonbo refused his offer and returned to Windrest Valley to continue his research.
• Itachi Uchiha massacred the Uchiha clan and fled Konoha, leaving Sasuke as the sole survivor, determined to grow stronger and kill his brother.
• Tobitake Tonbo rebuked Konoha’s leaders over the massacre and security failures, and Hiruzen Sarutobi disbanded Danzo’s Root and ANBU training department.
