When Tsunade disappeared and signs of Kara’s activity emerged, Tonbo and Kakashi prepared to confront the threat while Tonbo continued strengthening Konoha.

• Tobitake Tonbo visited Sunagakure, defeated Shira in a Taijutsu spar, and offered to share a training system in exchange for Shira’s expertise.
• Tobitake Tonbo secured cooperation from the great ninja villages, and Kankuro demonstrated his chakra-powered Mecha in the desert.
• Tobitake Tonbo and Ayame welcomed Saitama, while Tonbo sealed a strand in the newborn’s brain until he could develop a fuller worldview.

Four years after Konoha’s hunt for Kara’s Inner members began, Boruto and the other freshmen endured the New Life Ceremony and witnessed demonstrations by Konoha’s strongest ninjas. The arc ends with the Ōtsutsuki plotting to harvest the world, while Yuanfang Yosuke begins working with Dakan at a laboratory that Victor wants to infiltrate.

• Konoha found Kara spies across many nations and factions but failed to locate its Inner members, and four years later Boruto defended Denki from bullies on a railcar before Saitama brought them late to the Academy.
• Naruto and the teachers put the freshmen through dangerous initiation exercises, including a fall from the sky and surfing towering waves, before presenting demonstrations of powerful ninja abilities.
• Shino, Konohamaru, Moegi, Asuma, Kakashi, Might Guy, Kabuto, Neji, and Tobitake Tonbo showed their powers, and Boruto’s eye briefly awakened as the Jōgan during Kabuto’s Divine Dragon display.
• Tobitake Tonbo raised a new island, subjected the students to a survival Genjutsu, and watched Naruto unleash Sage Art: Planetary Rasenshuriken to destroy the island and conclude the ceremony.
• At the Academy, Boruto and Sarada vowed to surpass their parents, while Iruka explained how the school trained ninjas in peacetime and Saitama was laughed at after admitting he did not know an answer in Ebisu’s class.

Kara’s schemes culminated in Momoshiki planting Kāma on Boruto and Shibai Ōtsutsuki resurrecting through Amado. After a year of preparation, Shibai and Kawaki marched on the Ninja Alliance as the shinobi forces mobilized to face them.

• Yuanfang Yosuke cleared Yuanfang Dakan to work at Konoha’s Technology Development Bureau, while Kara watched the screening and Amado urged caution as they gathered intelligence.
• Kara operatives stole Mōryō, and Konoha exposed Kara’s presence as Tobitake Tonbo and Orochimaru strengthened their preparations against the prophesied Ōtsutsuki threat.
• Boruto and his friends trained through the Ninja Academy’s trials, while Saitama’s sparring with Mirai Sarutobi drew the attention of their families.
• Momoshiki and Kinshiki attacked the Chunin exam, and Momoshiki planted Kāma on Boruto before Sasuke took him away to train.
• Urashiki used Karasuki to travel into the past, while Tobitake Tonbo confronted Ada and Daemon and captured Ada after Jigen’s arrival disrupted the fight.
• Tobitake Tonbo warned Naruto that Kara’s headquarters should be attacked in two years, and Gamamaru predicted a devastating war around the same time.
• Shibai Ōtsutsuki resurrected through Amado, absorbed Code and Daemon, and declared that he would conquer the Shinobi World within a year.
• Kashin Koji warned Tobitake Tonbo of the coming casualties, and a year later Shibai and Kawaki led an army against the Ninja Alliance as Tobitake Tonbo, Naruto, Sasuke, and their allies advanced to meet them.
