Background / History
Natasha Romanoff was born in 1928 and underwent genetic modification through the Red Room, which slowed her aging dramatically. She grew up amid the aftermath of World War I, came of age during World War II, and spent the first half of her life under the control of the KGB. Later, she believed she had become an agent of justice through S.H.I.E.L.D., only to discover that Hydra had infiltrated and gradually replaced the organization from within 11 127 284.
Natasha first encountered Kino when she detected him inside her hotel suite. She immediately responded as a trained operative, combining firearms, acrobatics, close-quarters combat, and evasive movement. After realizing that Kino could dodge bullets, she attempted to withdraw for reinforcements, but he incapacitated her with lightning and restrained her 1.
Kino later brought Natasha to the Helicarrier to meet Nick Fury. During the confrontation, he used Conqueror’s Haki to knock out nearly every soldier on deck, leaving Natasha physically helpless and deeply humiliated by his teasing treatment of her 2 4. Despite their hostile beginning, she remained involved in Kino’s dealings with S.H.I.E.L.D. and eventually participated in his Armament Haki training program.
During the Battle of New York, Natasha fought alongside the Avengers and used Loki’s Scepter to sever the portal’s connection to the Cosmic Cube. Kino secretly froze her in place, stole the real Scepter, and replaced it with a magical imitation without her noticing 210.
Hydra later used the missing Scepter to frame Natasha and weaken Nick Fury’s faction. Kino rescued her from detention and revealed that Hydra had controlled S.H.I.E.L.D. for decades. The revelation destroyed her faith in the organization and made her question whether many of her past missions had harmed innocent people. After briefly considering abandoning Earth with Kino, she chose to remain and seek revenge against Hydra 251 283 284.
After S.H.I.E.L.D.’s collapse, Natasha gave Captain America File No. 17, which contained evidence of Bucky Barnes’s role in Howard and Maria Stark’s deaths. She then chose to accompany Kino to Wakanda while arranging a new identity, later obtaining a set of Vibranium equipment 291 293.
Natasha continued serving with the Avengers during the Ultron crisis, the Sokovia Accords conflict, the battle against Dormammu, and the Wakanda War. She remained a frontline operative even when fighting environments became hazardous or supernatural, relying on her agility, weapons, and Haki-enhanced physical ability 310 341 344 357 448.
Appearance
Natasha retains the appearance of a young, highly athletic woman despite being over eighty years old. Her Red Room modification has left her with only a small amount of visible aging, and she is approximately 170.5 centimeters tall 2 11 127.
Distinguishing features include:
- Physique shaped by decades of combat training and espionage.
- Exceptional agility and coordination.
- An apparently youthful appearance despite her advanced age.
- A preference for practical weapons, including firearms, daggers, and Vibranium spikes 208 293 357.
Personality
Natasha is alert, aggressive, and highly disciplined when confronted by an unknown threat. Her first reaction to Kino was immediate combat rather than panic, and she correctly recognized that his ability to evade bullets made him an extraordinary opponent 1.
She is proud and intensely competitive. After losing to Captain America and Peggy Carter in physical testing, she deliberately volunteered to become the first Armament Haki trainee so she could gain an advantage over the others 127 129. She continued practicing during her free time and eventually became the team’s best technical user of Armament Haki 131 133.
Natasha is also practical and mission-focused. During the Battle of New York, she repeatedly reminded Tony Stark to concentrate on the main objective instead of pursuing a copied Iron Man suit 207. She often uses dry humor and sarcasm to maintain composure, even while exhausted or surrounded by supernatural enemies 357.
The collapse of S.H.I.E.L.D. causes a rare period of self-doubt. Natasha feels guilt over possibly serving Hydra and recognizes parallels between her experience and Hawkeye’s remorse after being controlled by Loki. However, she ultimately rejects despair and chooses to fight Hydra rather than escape from her past 283 284.

S.H.I.E.L.D. and Haki Training

Battle of New York
Natasha helps close the Chitauri portal using Loki’s Scepter. Her success is undermined when Kino secretly replaces the real artifact, making her the target of later suspicion and investigation 210 251.
Hydra Exposure
After Kino reveals that Hydra had infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D. since World War II, Natasha confronts the collapse of her identity as an agent of justice. She chooses revenge against Hydra rather than abandoning the conflict or following Kino immediately to another world 283 284.
Avengers Rebuilding and Civil War
