Before long, he reached a door and pushed it open. Laughter and cheerful voices greeted him at once.

Werther stepped inside and narrowed his eyes. Unlike the dim corridor, this room was spacious and bright.

The whole room had a playful feel. Warm colors covered the walls, along with drawings of rainbows and clouds.

A group of children played in the center of the room.

Werther looked up at them and realized where he was.

Werther turned toward the voice and saw a fair-skinned beauty with long green hair.

She seemed familiar. Werther thought for a moment, then recognized her as Monet.

Her voice sounded faintly familiar too, though he could not place it.

"Monet, what are you doing here? Are you going to stop me?"

Werther could not quite read her intentions. Officially, she was Caesar's subordinate, but she was actually Doffy's spy.

"Could you leave now, Mr. Werther? Then I could report that I've done my job."

Hope showed on Monet's face. She desperately wanted him to leave. Then she could continue the task her young master had given her—watching Caesar—and satisfy Caesar as well. It would solve
