Doffy jolted at the name Kaido and instinctively looked at Werther.
Werther was surprised too. He motioned for Doffy to answer the Den Den Mushi and find out what Kaido wanted.
He and Kaido had fought to the death on Island, but there was no real grudge between them. They had fought simply because each had seen how strong the other was and couldn't resist.
Doffy picked up the Den Den Mushi's receiver.
"This is Joker. What can I—"
Before Doffy could finish, Kaido's roar burst from the receiver.
"Joker! What the hell happened? That bastard Aokiji destroyed my Weapons Factory! How did he even get there? You owe me an explanation."
Kaido's roar was loud enough for Werther to hear clearly from the King of the Sky's back. His voice was as thunderous as ever.
Doffy had no idea how to answer. He couldn't simply say Werther had brought Aokiji in. That would be dumping the blame straight onto Werther.
While Doffy hesitated, Werther jumped down from the King of the Sky's back.
"Doffy, did Kaido have a stake in the Weapons Factory Aokiji destroyed?"
Doffy nodded.
"You, me, Kaido. We each owned a third."
Werther stared at him. How had he ended up with a share?
"Why do I own part of it? I haven't done anything. I can't just take money for nothing."
"No. Your name alone keeps most of the unruly pirates in the New World in line. For some of them, it works even better than Kaido's. Cross Kaido, and you'll die at worst. Cross you, and death is the best outcome."
