Gunpowder Smoke billowed across the battlefield. Blood had flowed in rivers.
The fighting was no longer as fierce as it had been at first. The weak had all been eliminated, leaving only factions with some reputation in the New World.
Those people could be considered the victors. After suffering heavy casualties, each faction had seized a piece of the island.
Dividing the island's gold according to each faction's strength seemed reasonable enough.
But they did not know that the gold already had an owner.
When Werther reached the battlefield, he found every faction hauling away gold. They had stopped fighting, though a few still had disputes over minor friction. Even those groups were showing restraint.
The factions had apparently reached some kind of understanding.
That was not the outcome Werther wanted. He did not care much about the gold, but he and Kaido had fought Big Mom for it.
They had won in the end, but only he knew how great the risk had been. One look at Kaido now showed just how serious a wound to the soul could be.
If it had done that to Kaido, the consequences for Werther would have been even worse. Swordsmen had never been known for their defenses.
"Jack, tell those bastards they have two minutes to get lost."
Werther motioned for Jack to drive them away, but Jack turned to look at him.
"Why do I have to shout?"
"Because you have the louder voice."
Jack had no answer. After a moment's thought, he nodded.
Jack gripped the Iron Jaw on his chin and pulled it off.
After removing the Iron Jaw, Jack revealed a mouthful of interlocking, sharklike fangs that made him look downright savage.
Anyone faint of heart would have stumbled back a few steps at the sight.
"I'll shout
