Just as Doffy urged Werther to leave, a hand landed on his shoulder.
"So that thing is strong and enormous?"
Doffy looked up into a pair of eyes that seemed to sparkle and a face full of smiles.
"Werther, you're not thinking of—"
Doffy already had a bad feeling.
"Heh. Isn't this exactly what I've been looking for? I searched everywhere, and it fell right into my lap. What luck."
Werther had decided to fight the monster Doffy had mentioned: Leviathan.
Strong, enormous, and capable of swallowing things whole—taken together, those traits meant Leviathan would be hard to deal with.
But a creature that powerful would also have a tremendous amount of life force in its body.
"Is it a deep-sea creature or a shallow-water one?"
If it lived in the deep sea, the immense water pressure down there would protect it. Werther would be unable to do much to Leviathan beyond absorbing some of its life force.
"Leviathan lives in shallow water. It can dive a few hundred meters at most. Its lungs are too fragile to withstand deep-sea pressure, and it has no gills. It's an amphibian."
Werther kept his eyes on the sea. He sensed something rising.
A column of water half a meter thick shot upward toward the King of the Sky.
It came fast and hard, propelled by tremendous water pressure.
The King of the Sky had not earned his title for nothing. A king of the skies would not be taken down so easily.
He spread his wings and beat them rapidly, twisting his massive body aside to narrowly dodge the water column.
It shot past his left wing and vanished from sight, racing toward the horizon.
That was no ordinary column of water. It was more like a laser. If it had struck
