Background / History

Yalila was taken in by Oyana as a child after suffering abandonment and exploitation as a Half-Elf. During this period, she met the young Tiadam, who recognized their shared isolation and promised to save her from Oyana. Oyana’s treatment of Yalila was already violent and controlling, despite presenting herself as the girl’s teacher or mother figure 6 28.

As Oyana’s apprentice, Yalila worked in the magic shop and became involved with Tiadam, largely because his position as a bandit granted her access to gifts and valuables. A Dragonblood Ring Tiadam gave her became connected to the incident in which a crimson-armored youth severed the fingers of her right hand as “payment”; Oyana later restored them with healing magic 13 15 16.

Yalila abused Lanta while he was restrained in Oyana’s shop, repeatedly striking him while using healing magic to keep the injuries nonfatal. Oyana interrupted the torture and violently punished Yalila for harming a guest, forcing her to confess that she had concealed Tiadam’s gifts and met him in the slums. Afterward, Yalila internally regarded Oyana as a slave master and developed hatred and a desire to rebel 19.

When Tiadam came to the shop searching for her, Yalila dismissed him as an ex-boyfriend and ordered Lufa to attack him. She escalated the confrontation by demanding the summoning of the fire demon Gundaljika, then denied that Oyana had ever harmed her when Tiadam tried to intervene. She rejected Tiadam’s plea for reconciliation, saying that she valued his gifts rather than him personally 27 28 29.

At Grand Duke Veil Nas’s banquet, Yalila disguised herself with freshly dyed golden hair and publicly incited Forest Elves against Tiadam and Denolan. While exploring the estate, she lost her right hand and her Spider Hairpin to Veil Nas’s servants after threatening the butler. The loss of the hairpin left her unable to return to Oyana’s shop, and she was captured as leverage against Oyana 35 38. She later remained unconscious and under Oyana’s care during Canfor’s collapse 46.

Yalila is a young Half-Elf with a delicate appearance that conceals an aggressive demeanor. Her elven heritage is visible through her pointed ears.

Personality

Yalila is defensive, sharp-tongued, and distrustful of human kindness. When Denolan helped her escape black-market thugs, she accused him of acting only because he found her attractive; their argument quickly turned into mutual racial insults 12.

She is opportunistic and materially motivated. She maintained her relationship with Tiadam because of the valuables and influence he provided, openly admitted that she liked his gifts rather than him, and became immediately hospitable to Pervi and Lanta once Pervi paid rent in gold 25 27 29.

Her cruelty toward Lanta demonstrates a vindictive side, particularly when she believes she can act without Oyana’s supervision. However, her confidence collapses around Oyana and Veil Nas’s servants, revealing fear, dependence, and vulnerability beneath her arrogance 19 29 38.
