Background / History

Arthur was originally a custom, level-100 guardian NPC created for Myth. Unlike the automatically generated demon NPCs of Despair Fortress, he was designed with his own equipment and AI, functioning as a boss-class defender whom ordinary players could not defeat alone. He served as the guild's steward and survived the destruction of Despair Fortress because Gu Tianzhen intended to sell the territory and left Arthur guarding its cornerstone. 2

After Avilan awakens in the physically real fortress, Arthur displays independent reasoning rather than preset dialogue. He identifies their location, scouts the altered surroundings on Avilan's request, and reports that Despair Fortress has been invaded. 2

Arthur raises the fortress alert to maximum and leads its defense against the invading adventurers. He summons an undead force to surround them, personally blocks their escape, and kills their strongest captain, Casmin, without moving from the impact of his attack. 3 4

When Avilan chooses to revive Allen, Lippy, and Agonsi, Arthur objects on racial grounds, reflecting Despair Fortress's old doctrine of Demon Realm supremacy. He ultimately obeys, but nearly kills Lippy when the revived human refers to the fortress's inhabitants as “evil demons.” Arthur later coerces the three humans into labor by threatening their village. 6 7

As Despair Fortress recovers, Arthur becomes a public guardian of Avilan's authority. He formalizes the distinction between those permitted to call Avilan “Lord” and lower-ranking followers restricted to “Sovereign,” then reinforces the guild's pledge to offer the world to its ruler. 13 14

Arthur continues serving as administrator and enforcer during the fortress's expansion. He manages information on food production and revival costs, subdues Carter for disrespecting Avilan, assumes command after Avilan exhausts himself activating the Demon Gate, and watches over Allen's family when the escaped workers return to Moning Village. 31 32 38 49

Appearance

Arthur is a towering knight with a resolute face and a deep, magnetic voice. In battle, he presents as an imposing death knight; outside combat, he adopts the formal appearance of Despair Fortress's chief steward. 2 4 5

Personality

Arthur's defining trait is absolute loyalty to Avilan. He regards his master as the supreme existence of Despair Fortress and responds to orders immediately, whether the task is scouting, commanding troops, administering the fortress, or carrying out punishments. 2 3 8

He is intensely formal and protective of hierarchy. Arthur insists on proper titles for Avilan, sees direct disrespect as an unforgivable offense, and uses force to impose obedience on those who violate the fortress's order. 13 14 32

Arthur is less confident in civil administration than in combat, openly admitting that construction and internal affairs are outside his strengths. Nevertheless, he can offer useful strategic counsel, such as recommending Zhou Yu's resurrection and proposing reincarnation for the wronged souls taken from the Blood Church. 5 30

His loyalty is accompanied by entrenched prejudice against humans and other non-demon races. Arthur initially considers humans unworthy of Avilan's attention and reacts violently when Lippy labels demons as evil. 6 7
