Five Elements Simultaneous Birth

However, what shocked Fuxi and Nuwa the most was that Dao Xuan proposed a concept: the simultaneous birth of the five elements.

The so-called simultaneous birth of the five elements meant that the five foundational origins of metal, wood, water, fire, and earth were generated and evolved together, rather than being born one after another in sequence. The five emerged together, interdependent, jointly constructing the foundation of the world.

Such a philosophy was something neither of the siblings, Fuxi and Nuwa, had ever heard of or seen before.

Now that Dao Xuan put it this way, how could they not be shocked?

As for the Five Elements Dao, every cultivator had attained some understanding of it, to a greater or lesser or deeper or shallower degree.

Yet even for Fuxi and Nuwa, their understanding of the five elements was limited only to the principles that the five elements could generate and overcome each other, revolving in a continuous cycle where the five phases rotated without end.

Only now did they realize how superficial the "five elements" they had comprehended truly were.

And how ignorant they themselves had been.

Of course, this did not mean that the principles of mutual generation and restriction of the five elements they had comprehended were wrong.

Rather, by grasping this layer of principle, they had merely stepped across the threshold of the Five Elements Dao.

To advance further from this level required breaking through inherent perceptions.

Metal, wood, water, fire, and earth, which had originally been differentiated, had to be recombined into a single entity. Moreover, the principle underlying this reunification was not the connection of mutual generation and restraint among the five elements.
