Background / History

Zhunti attained the Dao from the Bodhi Tree, a supreme Innate Spiritual Root associated with Geng Metal. Following the devastation of the western lands in the Dao-Demon War, the West’s remaining fortune enabled both Zhunti and Jieyin—whose true body is the Bitter Bamboo Spiritual Root—to take form and cultivate. 24 36 39

A branch of Zhunti’s own Bodhi Tree became the Seven-Treasure Wondrous Tree, his Dao-sealing treasure. 1 Alongside Jieyin, he cultivates at Sumeru Mountain, where the remaining ancestral veins of the West converge. 36 39

At Hongjun’s first sermon, Zhunti and Jieyin arrived late and found the six prayer mats occupied. Zhunti feigned despair until Hong Yun surrendered his seat out of compassion. He then forced Kunpeng to yield his own seat to Jieyin, aided by Yuanshi’s verbal support and pressure. 12 Zhunti later joined the other great powers in requesting that Hongjun teach the Three Corpses Severing Method. 17

After learning that Dao Xuan had been gathering branches from major spiritual roots, Zhunti and Jieyin concluded that he might seek the Bodhi Tree and Bitter Bamboo next. They refused to risk even a branch of their true bodies and prepared an ambush at Sumeru Mountain. 36

When Dao Xuan arrived, the pair trapped him in Jieyin’s layered Dream World. Zhunti attacked with Geng Metal Divine Thunder, dream-created treasures, and his Bodhi Golden Body, but Dao Xuan broke the Dream World’s structure by drawing on his Inner World. Zhunti is calculating, shameless, and intensely pragmatic in pursuing opportunities. At Zixiao Palace, he used a staged display of grief to obtain Hong Yun’s prayer mat, then immediately sought a second mat for Jieyin through intimidation. 12

He is also territorial and easily provoked when his interests are threatened. The prospect of Dao Xuan taking even a branch of the Bodhi Tree offended him, particularly because he was accustomed to exploiting others rather than being targeted himself. 36 In battle, Zhunti favors escalation and direct aggression, contrasting with Jieyin’s more cautious judgment. 41
